Relm How Much did Gestahl know?

One of the biggest arguments about Kefka's character and motives in VI by his detractors has always been that Kefka was simply an underling following Gestahl's commands and that every major event by the Empire in the WoB was planned by Gestahl. Yet, if you think about it, it was far more advantageous to have Terra in his grasp, and if his ultimate goal was the Warring Triad, how come he didn't use Terra to open the gate sooner? Gestalh's motives for most of the WoB is trying to collect Espers and conquer kingdoms, the Warring Triad doesn't enter the picture for his plans until after Kefka speaks of his own plans to revive them. So is it possible that Kefka may have been the one to know about the Warring Triad and simply told Gestahl in order to manipulate him into helping him obtain them, or does Kefka simply know because this was always Gestahl's goal, which leads back to why he didn't try to use Terra to open the door before he lost her.

I think we're supposed to believe that Gestahl is the mastermind throughout the game. We're meant to have doubt when there's the peace talks. And yes, he is untrustworthy because he does release Kefka, but I don't think he realised that Kefka manipulated him by using his thirst for power. You'll notice that Gestahl tries to off Kefka just as the reverse is true.

It depends how much you want to modify the game. We can go by your word or give the creators the final say. But to give us an uncommon idea they wanted to change villians imo.

Then you get into philosophy on why a character is more important than another. In that case it could mean anything.

I definitely thought he was a dog-man until, like, a year ago.
