I thought the role of "sorceress's puppet" worked quite well, and liked how his increase in extremism eventually led to the emotional moment when his sidekicks tell him he's gone too far. Fujin even stopped yelling. One of the more moving parts of the game.

True, it's better than the Tifa/Aeris stuff. Especially with Tifa friendzoning the trout out of him and yet flipping out when he shows interest in someone else (say in the cells, when she's all "well EXCUSE me. So what's it like being a planet hugging hippy?", heh). Though one could argue that it's realistic, I've known a few of the Tifa types in my time...

I agree with this. I don't think there are many scenes with Seifer and Rinoa interacting at all, really. I can't remember anything significant. I really feel like it was thrown in at the last minute or included as part of an Aborted Arc.

Most of the plot seems slapdash if you ask me!

I'm just gonna leave this here.

I got in a mood for writing crap like that a few years back but I think it's still mostly okay for outlining how important Seifer was to the overall story.

That is until said story stopped even pretending to care about itself.

The love triangle was tragically underused and so was Seifer.

Umm, where was the love triangle in 6? Locke, Celes and his past girlfriend who I always thought had a moustache?
And in 4? Let me guess? The two lovebirds and Kain? I don't necessarily think that was a love triangle. And if it was, then 8's was definitely more "pronounced" as you put it. I mean come, Rinoa ultimately confesses to loving Seifer, Squall falls for her, they put on a concert for them..
About Quistis, I think that she sort of gives up on Squall right before graduation night, when he's like, yeah, i don't care... She then takes it out on Rinoa in Deling, but ultimately feels sorry for it and moves on. That was my interpretation. She probably went back to Garden after all of it and started dating one of the Trepies, or eventually turned into a lesbian. I always though she looked sort of butch with the whip and all

That too, but I actually meant butch. I was referring to the fact that I had mentioned earlier she may have turned into a lesbian after all of the events.

The love triangle sort of dies off after the first disc, I felt. There's the flirty dancing bit between Rinoa and Squall on disc one, but then she's also enquiring after Seifer. It's obvious then that she harbours some feelings for (or has a crush on) Seifer during the Timber mission. In my mind, I never really felt that Seifer particularly cared for Rinoa, at least in no way comparable to her affection for him. It also seemed to be that Rinoa and Squall only really seemed to develop any kind of interest in each other long after Seifer had ceased to be a realistic prospect for Rinoa.
