I remember a Lost-like TV show on CBBC about some kids on a school trip to Australia. Weird trout happens involving aliens or something, I don't remember. It was full of twists and turns and was really gripping when I was young.

It was also troute. In hindsight it was awful but as I kid I couldn't wait for the series to explain what was going on.

Oh god I know the one you're talking about. I want to know what the go was too. They were British tourists and went back home and nobody knew who they were or something.

Yes! this is the show I was thinking about too for this thread, Jeopardy!
There was another show on CBBC about this underground water facility and this weird alien chick who had a whale for a friend.

Grandpa Smurf was the oldest living smurf, who returned to the group after a ~500 year long absence. The little red-haired smurf girl was Sassette, who was created by the other Smurflings. So she wasn't "real" either. She also has freckles

British kids of the 90's unite. We did a hell of a lot of crossover TV with the Aussies.
