Default Disney Sequels Do Not Suck

This is a horrible lie that has been perpetuated by people who cannot get over the fact that many Disney sequels are actually pretty good.

I absolutely love The Return of Jafar and Simba's Pride. I think both of them are worthy of bearing the Disney logo. So are: Rescuers Down Under, The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea and Cinderella III: A Twist in Time.

I think it is obviously unfair to compare them to the originals, but a lot of people are so adamant about hating them just for the sake of it, instead of actually giving them a fair chance.

What's your opinion on Disney Sequels? Which one is your favorite?

A lot of the sequels are bad. Not all of them.

I, too, like The Littler Mermaid 2. But this one has to be my favourite. Not really as sequel (in as much as a parallel time-line, or just a further view into the story) but it's great. It came out when I was six, and I loved the music. And Angelique. :3

The rescuers down under is a good one. Didn't really care about the little mermaid and aladdin 2.

They do suck, if we are going to blanket statement. Which we are all doing when we make that statement. I won't deny there are some good, but for the most part they are bad. Here is a list of all the available Disney sequels. :3 And for the record I have watched every single one of these. My life, why do I waste it on awful movies?

    Fantasia 2000
    Bambi II
    Cinderella II: Dreams Come True
Cinderella III: A Twist in Time
    Return to Never Land
Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure
101 Dalmatians II: Patch’s London Adventure
    The Jungle Book 2
    The Rescuers Down Under
The Fox and the Hound 2
The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea
    The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning
Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas
    Belle’s Magical World
    The Return of Jafar
Aladdin and the King of Thieves
The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride
    The Lion King 1½
    An Extremely Goofy Movie
Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World
The Hunchback of Notre Dame II
    Mulan II
    Tarzan & Jane
    Tarzan II
    Kronk’s New Groove
    Atlantis: Milo’s Return
    Stitch! The Movie
Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch
    Leroy and Stitch
    Brother Bear 2

I think that 4/30 are enjoyable in their own right. Four. I feel that the statement "All Disney Sequels are bad" is a fair statement to make, given this. xD

(Also the Little Mermaid 2 is bad because it's just the exact same story with a new coat of paint, lack of innovation, man.)

My general opinion of them is "eh" because I've never had my attention genuinely captured by any of them. I don't really have a favourite because I have only seen a handful of them. Probably Kronk's New Groove, if only because it features Kronk, but that's the only reason. It's still a fairly "eh" movie.

Regarding the Lion King, I would say that two of my favourite characters in The Lion King were Mufasa and the young Simba. Both were unfortunately unable to return in the second movie for obvious reasons. Basically, though, the first movies are generally great in their own right, they are complete movies that have a start and an end with no need (nor room, generally) for a sequel. Not even a suggestion that a sequel would be needed to further understand the story. They are complete. So when a sequel is made, the sequel is just living off the glory of the original, and in most cases the sequel is very forced and often will be far more focused towards smaller, lesser conflicts than the originals. It goes from "The end of the world is coming!" kind of scale down to "So-and-so wants a new dress!" which is obviously kind of... well, yeah.

Dude, Shauna. Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas is great in its own right.

I dunno. I couldn't get behind it, personally. Although! It does have Tim Curry... I never watched it when I was younger, so there's no nostalgia here. :3

You've just hit the nail on the head there. Sequels we watch when we're younger are still good to us. I liked Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure. I loved The Little Mermaid 2. I even liked Aladdin and the King of Thieves. All movies I watched as a kid.

I didn't see Mulan 2 (Mulan is my favourite Disney movie) until I was 17 or so. But I like it. I think it's funny and charming. Not necessarily a good sequel, per say, but it's fun.

I never watched Mulan or the Emperor's New Groove until I was in my mid-late teens, because of the whole "Ew, Disney is for kids" thing I went through. I found I loved those movies to pieces, and if I decide to watch some Disney, they're right in there alongside Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid.
I did, however, watch Pocahontas II when I was younger, and nothing can convince me that it is anything but bad. It's not completely nostalgia related (well, for me I guess), although I will admit that there is a lot to be said for watching things when you're a kid.

    Or maybe I'm just weird.

I grew up on the Aladdin sequels, King of Thieves, Return of Jafar and even though now I see them as being a bit less glorious than the original the nostalgia element attached to them for me really does make them good movies or rather did at the time as I remember them because I haven't watched either for about 11 years or something.
