fighting that smurfing boat thing and getting an oar to the face and instant removal is probably the absolute worst case scenario ever.

I don't usually attempt Battle Square until very late in the game. At the point when I'm strong enough to select (and cope with) all the worst ailments. That way you can get about 10'000 battle points at a time and you'll have W-Summon and Omnislash in no time.

Doing it earlier on would just take forever and I'm never that desperate to get Omnislash until the return to Midgar section on Disc 3.

i usually roll with yuffie, load her down with materia + conformer and abuse slash all. have her set at limit level 3 so I can multi-hit and blow up proud clod if he shows up as the final boss of the damn thing.

I'm with Bubba, I can't be bothered to mess with Battle Square until late in disc 2. It can still be such a pain in the ass then.

I don't typically rage from getting unfortunate debuffs on the slot machine, because I make sure to equip myself with several methods of doing the same thing. Ribbon + addedeffect-hades, Enemy skill in addition to attack/healing magic, and enough HP-plus materia to have a true HP of somewhere around 20000 or more, so that even after having my HP reduced once, I still have 9999. I also make sure to keep some handy items around.

However, the ghost ship's ejectfrombattle move always does. Make. Me. Rage. The person coming up with that idea should be shot in the back of their skulls.

With a paintball gun or something of course. I'm not a sociopath.

How far did everyone get on your first try at Battle Square? The one where you fight early on to get the keystone.

I think I got to round 5 last time and I was pretty chuffed.

That darn boat!! And its the last one in the battle chain right? Usually after you've had a really good run of limping along earning what should be a lot of points. Need that tissue.

Also annoying is the sand worm with 3 trillion HP when you're stuck in "mini" with no materia.

Last time, I Emulated the game and used the speed up button to get through the tedium of this and the chocobos

I find the Battle Square to be one of the most tedious aspects of the game. I can see the attraction to it, and the sense of achievement you get when you get Omnislash for the first time, but on every occasion afterwards I just find it an annoyance. Sometimes I just don't even bother with it, and feel absolutely no regret.

    The effing boat though...

The only ailment I hate is mini (if they've removed my items and magic already). I actually managed to finish off an opponent with 1000 HP (they only dished out like 40HP hits), while I was messing about, but naturally, mini f's everything up. I also hate it when there's no random selection in the slots (wasn't the point of the slots to provide CHANCE..?)
    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.
