I'd like a main character who isn't either:

Whiny and irritating: Tidus, Vaan
Dark and broody: Cloud, Squall
Serious, determined: Lightning

A main character who isn't a cookie cutter clone of another. I agree, I would love a return to a large world map with many sidequests, towns and secrets. I missed that in XIII..
