A Change to the Series: Pokemon

I haven't played any since Crystal, but I've been reading reviews and talking to people who have played the newer ones and it does sound like the series haven't changed much at all and the major problem I had with the newer ones since Sapphire/Ruby is still there.
BW changed quite a bit and I absolutely loved those changes. They actually made an interesting and thought-provoking story with memorable characters.

There haven't been many changes. I would like to see a brand new plot line. Start it the same, but have the gym battles become completely unimportant. Make it a battle against a really effective Team Rocket or w/e. Give it a real storyline.
I really liked what the article brought up. I myself really felt this way about Black and White. The game was featured for its improved graphics and touted for now having the pokemon be animated during battle but I thought both of those to be shams. The Dragon Quest DS remakes are built on an 5+ year old engine but they look like more modern games than Black & White.
While I thought the introduction of the Pokemon Templars fighting to liberate them from trainers was a good idea, I think the story needs further contextualization. It can't just be about one player, you, fighting 8 trainers and becoming a champion. It's a JRPG, give the protagonist an awesome motivation, back story, and relationship to the world and characters. Or if you want to keep the character as avatar approach, give the player a couple choices in the beginning for origin and throughout, since the games have always done that with your choice of pokemon anyway.
Lastly, I'm tired of seeing there be a grass, water, and fire choice at the beginning. Make it something more interesting like psychic, fighting, or poison.

Yeah, I feel ya. Didn't know that they still did the fire/grass/ water thing. That should be getting boring, but while psychic, fighting, and poison are unique I would go for three starters that all oppose each other like fire/ grass/ and water do. Fighting/Ice/Flying does for example.
Also in that article I posted I am still perplexed that they haven't allowed pokemon from older gens in the games. I want to be able to mix the new with the old.
They stopped doing that because everyone got sick of ZUBATS EVERY smurfING PLACE.
The only real answer to the diversity question is to include every region in a game already. Which one to start in? Hell let's make it random.
yes it was! i remember being floored when I realized you could snag different pokemon at night and you'd have different events based on the day. it really gave you some extra motivation to play it!Originally Posted by Pitye

I was playing Gold for the first time, on the DS Heart Gold remake, when Black & White came out. As much as I liked White, I just couldn't keep going because of how good Heart Gold was.
