Black Mages are gorilla.
Music is the most memorable. Followed up by the mystery of figuring out who was responsible for the destruction of the world as I kept on playing.

The stories and adventure. I love exploring a richly developed world.
That's easy: it's the Final Fantasy "feel"
at least for FFI-IX it is
I just like a game where I can get lost in its story, its music, and its menus for a couple hours.
Gotta concur with everyone else who said the music. Few other game composers are on Uematsu's level.
Right? It seems odd to me that only I-IX actually have that kind of feel. Something about them just draws you in and makes you want to delve deeper into the world and the story. XII kinda had something similar, but it wasn't exactly there. For me, I, III, IV, VI, VII, and IX had an astounding level of "Final Fantasy feel" (especially VI and IX) and I just have absolutely no idea where it comes from. I just made a post in Pike's Which Pokemon Game/Gen is your favorite? thread about getting lost in the worlds, and I can't believe I barely realized that the FF feel is eerily similar to the "Pokemon feel." These are games that make you want with every fiber of your being to show them whose boss.
I guess when games are done right, they just pull you in through some supernatural PLAY ME force and never let you forget about them.

i'm focusing on your image
can you hear me in the void?
Nomura's character drawings too. They're fabulous.

The story. When its good. When its bad... Well, it'd better have some kickass gameplay.
The sense of adventure is probably what sums it up for me. It's what I fell in love with in the early games and what I feel is lacking in the more recent games.
