    or "album of the year"!

gonna be a three-way between The Money Store, Synthetica, and Born to Die.

What'd you like the most this year?

jesus christ, so many people released albums that I hadn't heard of!

fun. - Some Nights has to be it for me, since I am sorely not caught up at all with 2012 albums.

Those two thingies you linked are actually pretty darn good. I'm almost surprised you listen to this!

I'll listen a lot more to it tomorrow when it's not "time to go to bed 5 hours ago" o'clock

    :monster:

Incomplete list of stuff I've enjoyed a lot that was released this year. Anything on this list could be considered a recommendation for anyone who enjoys the genre the album is recorded in, especially the bold stuff, which I regard as masterpieces.

    Änglagård - Viljans öga
David Arnold and Michael Price - Sherlock OST (both volumes)
Ash Borer - Cold of Ages
Between the Buried and Me - The Parallax II: Future Sequence
Botanist - III: Doom in Bloom/Allies
Carbonscape - Artistry of Exhaustion III
    Deathspell Omega - Drought
Devin Townsend Project - Epicloud (2CD version)
Ramin Djawadi - Game of Thrones Season 2 OST
    Dordeduh - Dar de duh
Drudkh - Вічний Оберт Колеса [Eternal Turn of the Wheel]
    Enslaved - Riitiir
A Forest of Stars - A Shadowplay for Yesterdays
    Giles Corey - Deconstructionist
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!
The Great Old Ones - Al Azif
    Ihsahn - Eremita
    Inverloch - Dusk | Subside
    Kayo Dot - Gamma Knife
    Kólga - Demo
    Krallice - Years Past Matter
Lake of Blood - The Burial Grounds Sessions
    Lunar Aurora - Hoagascht
    Magma - Félicité Thösz
    The Mars Volta - Noctourniquet
    Napalm Death - Utilitarian
Ne Obliviscaris - Portal of I
    Panopticon - Kentucky
    Rush - Clockwork Angels
    Sigh - In Somniphobia
    Swans - The Seer
Trampled by Turtles - Stars and Satellites
    Vattnet Viskar - Vattnet Viskar
    Wintersun - Time I
    Wodensthrone - Curse

If reissues count, throw Timeghoul - 1992-1994 Discography onto that list as well.

This list is nowhere near complete. There's still a lot of stuff I haven't listened to at all or enough to form an opinion on, including obvious stuff like Springsteen, Ulver, and Neurosis, so I will very likely add a lot of stuff to this list.

I don't have anywhere near enough self-control to narrow this down to an album of the year. If you're lucky you might get a list of about five albums that are clearly better than all the others, but I doubt it. Those bolded albums are probably as much as I can narrow it down.
Don't delay, add The Pimp today! Don't delay, add The Pimp today!

    Skyharbor - Blinding White Noise

Not even a contest for me, best debut album I've heard by any band since Karnivool's 'Themata'

I'll do a proper list at the end of the month but for now I suspect my top three will be Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Passion Pit and Fiona Apple.

Guess it didn't really come out in 2012 but the only "new" album I got or even listened to was Doomtree's No Kings.

I didn't buy much "new" music in 2012, mostly old albums I was discovering for the first time.

I've heard a ton of rave reviews for Lana Del Rey though. I'll have to check her out soon.
