Consistency is a valuable thing, I assure you - renaming Best Regular to Best Veteran would bugger up the all-coveted Hall of Fame. If you're going to rename Best Regular, please rename it to something that isn't the name previously used for a different award. It's misleading... sort of like renaming the Nobel Prize to the Jimmy Prize and renaming the Academy Awards to the Nobels.
Norm and Cliff are regulars of the Cheers bar. Being a regular doesn't mean you're new, that's just something that some people choose to believe after having the Ciddies around so long. Why is it silly that Mel/Clo/etc are considered regulars? They regularly come here, have done for years. Makes sense.

Well, so has Ultima Shadow (for example), smart guy. And most everyone else. We're all regulars.

'xactly! But Veterans are those regulars who have been registered for something at least close to half of EoFF's lifespan. You can't be a veteran if you've only been registered for a quarter of EoFF's existence. Not on my watch! I have talked this through with cool people and they agreed. Cool people! Cool!

It still feels weird that I'm a Veteran. A mothersmurfing veteran. Does that mean I get discounts and can blatantly and shamelessly demand respect from total strangers?
You get to continue posting at half the normal price now, Laddy!![]()

Best Vet: 2004-2007.
Best Oldbie: 1999-2003.
Sounds about right.
Also I'm not sure Best RM is a less difficult category than Best Veteran because you've got to compete against people like Proto (who has won that category what, five times in a row?), DK, Christmas, and WesLY. There are less people though, I guess.
Also also the nominations thread needs to be moved into the archive.
Let's face it, it's all relative to who we are.Laddy here is a Vet and doesn't even feel like he's a Vet yet, so I think I've got it at least close to right. But I'm not gonna add in another award just because EoFF is getting older... sure, it gets harder to win the award, but when you do win it, it means that much more.
Five in a row, actually. xD You're right in that regard, it doesn't make your life any easier. Does narrow the pool, though. Also I'm not sure Best RM is a less difficult category than Best Veteran because you've got to compete against people like Proto (who has won that category what, three times in a row?) and WesLY.![]()

I don't consider myself an oldbie, but definitely a veteran (regardless of what my joindate says, I wasn't really active until about 3 years after that anyway) so can we just do those awards based on feel
I just don't think people who have been at the forum for 10+ years are in the same category as people who have only been here for six. Maybe that's the elitist in me speaking though.
Not that it would've made any difference for me personally; assuming similar proportions of votes, I would've been second to Bleys almost regardless of how the categories were divided up. The only thing that would have changed the results is if I were a veteran rather than an oldbie, or if all people who used to be staff were automatically included in the former staff/RM category.
Definitely.![]()

Let's discuss this again next Ciddies! And maybe the one after that, too.![]()
I can only think of you and Unne, but there might have been others I've forgotten about
