    Default Anticipated movies for 2013

What movies are you looking forward to in 2013? For me, it's:

    Super Hyped
Thor 2 - Thor 1 probably the best Marvel movie after Iron Man
A Good Day to Die Hard - Die Hard 4 was pretty excellent so Willis has still got it
    Monsters University - Pixar duh
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - Series pretty good so far!
The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug - duh

    Kinda Hyped
Man of Steel - Superman Returns sucked but I have hopes for this
Iron Man 3 - Iron Man 2 kind of a let down so my opinion is reserved
Ender's Game - Adaptation of one of my favorite sci fi books

    Might See It
The Great Gatsby - Liked the book, but this may get caught up in its own Oscar bait
After Earth - Will Smith in a sci fi movie, not an original concept but worth checking out
Despicable Me 2 - DM was an underrated animated movie
The Wolverine - Supposed to be after X-Men 3 so it will probably be horrible, but it is Wolverine
Anchorman 2 - How many years ago was Anchorman? Will it work again or will this just be another Hangover 2?

Was Thor really that good? I didn't see it and found him kindof lame in The Avengers. I'm so glad you like Ender's Game! but I don't think I can bring myself to see the film. In fact, I'll probably make a point not to because I want to stick with my own interpretation of it and not have it altered by someone else's.

    Super Hyped:
    Oz, The Great and Powerful
Star Trek into Darkness - hell yeahhhh
    Man of Steel
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

    Kinda Hyped:
    Monsters University
Much Ado About Nothing - Joss Whedon and Firefly characters? hell yes
    World War Z
    300: Rise of an Empire

    Might See It:
    Jack the Giant Slayer
    Elysium
Warm Bodies - a friend of mine did a review for this and said it looks pretty good, so I'll give it a chance.

Forgot about Star Trek! Definitely on the Super Hyped list. Oz, Sin City, and Much Ado can also go on the 'Might See' list.

    Mmmm, Idris.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the re-imaging of Evil Dead, the remake of Carrie, and World War Z. Seems like it's going to be a good year for horror films. While I wasn't crazy about Monsters Inc. I'm definitely looking forward to Monsters' University.

What I'm definitely NOT looking forward to is the American remake of a great Korean film called Oldboy. Seriously leave amazing Asian cinema alone America. The Departed was great and all, but most of the time you fail at doing Asian cinema justice. Plus, Spike Lee is directing it and while I don't think he's a horrible director, it seems like a crap choice for this kind of film.

Also excited of course for Thor 2 and Iron Man 3.

I am also not happy that they are remaking Oldboy. Let sleeping dogs lie, goddamnit.

Thor is my favorite comic book/super hero movie. Reasons why:

Totally has a Shakespearean quality to it thanks to Kenneth Branagh's direction.
    Chris Hemsworth is hot.
Tom Hiddleston as Loki is the BEST! Love him so much. <3
The whole cast in general is really great.

Oldboy (the Korean film) was based on a comic, and most of the really crazy stuff in it was not in the original comic. So the new film is and yet isn't a remake of the Korean film. They can just go back to the source material. Spike Lee is a decent choice as director, as Inside Man showed, he can be good as a hired gun. Plus they have Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen as the leads. I mean it could well be just another stale thriller, but they've assembled a good cast and crew for it I think.

And I'm not sure how anyone can look forward to a remake of Carrie, now that is pointless.

What am I looking forward to this year? Something that isn't a remake or sequel is always welcome (though I do want to see Star Trek). There's Edgar Wright's film The World's End in the summer, if it's even half as good as Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz it'll be great.

    #1 Seriously?

#2 I'm looking forward to Man of Steel quite a bit. The preview shown before The Hobbit was rather exciting.

Movies I will definitely see in the theater:

    Star Trek
    The Hobbit
    Much Ado About Nothing
    Ender's Game
    Oz
    Monsters U
Elysium (District 9 was refreshingly awesome)

Movies I might see even though I lost faith in M.Night.S. when he ruined the live-action adaptation of my favorite cartoon ever:

After Earth: The script could be hit or miss (Stephen Gaghan, Traffic; Gary Whitta, The Book of Eli), but is more likely to be hit, and I've always liked Smith, but dammit if I get my hopes up for another Shyamalan movie and he spits in my face, I'm gonna feel like a real idiot.

Movies I'm going to watch because I have a fanchubby for Guillermo del Toro but which will probably suck because the premise is ridiculous:

    Pacific Rim

The only Marvel movies that come close to Thor are X-Men 2, X-Men First Class, and Avengers. I love Spider-Man the best, but none of the movies are really on par with the recent Marvel stuff. Like Miriel said, Thor gets the edge due to its Shakespearian mythological quality and great cast. X-Men First Class has a great cast as well, but some of the side characters (Emma Frost, a few of the younger mutants) aren't anything special. Every single character in Thor was perfect. Avengers had a cast like that too, and I could see it being argued for over Thor due to the scope of it all.

Iron Man, though, is a brilliant film and only The Dark Knight is a better comic book movie.

X-Men: First Class wins bonus points for having Magneto turn Irish towards the end.

I really wanna see a sequel to the Last Airbender and Dragon Ball Evoltuion.

Those were such good, underrated masterpieces!

    Now for real.

    Oz
    Man of Steel
    Monster University

    So far, thats it.
