I think it's utterly ridiculous how people grind, grind grind away at RPG's to get to Level 99 and get game-breaking stats, and then feel like somehow they've accomplished something important or noteworthy. Final Fantasy 6 is a prime example, due to it's stat-boosting system. I remember the time I played a low-level game, after seeing the FAQ for it on GameFAQ's. I had a great time! The battles were challenging! Trying to beat these bosses I had had little to no problem with in a normal game, whilst possessing the offensive and defensive power of a (pardon the pun) spoon was just mind-blowing. Suddenly, there was the very real possibility that Ultros might take me out in our first encounter on the Lethe River! It was exciting!
Then I read the FAQ a little more carefully and realized that the only reason it was ever even attempted was in order to "save" the grinding until the end of the game, to get the absolute highest stats possible! That's just stupid! You aren't a skilled player if you beat Final Kefka with the Genji Glove/Offering combo at Level 99 with 128 strength! The idea is that you're supposed to pick and choose what stats you boost on the way to the final boss, and hope to hell you chose wisely because the final boss is supposed to be an ultimate test of your skill at the game!
Grinding to Level 99 is boring. Just grind, grind, grind those Tyrannosaurs into powder, why don't you! [sarcasm] Yeah, that's making you a better Final Fantasy 6 player! [/sarcasm]
The GBA version is a joke to me. The script is nice in spots, but in a lot of places it's unnecessarily wordy, and in some places it's just dry and boring to me. The sound effects and music were raped with a razor-bladed dildo! (there is a patch for the music, but the sound effects still sound like a cat spitting into a coffee can). And to top it all off, the "extra content" added into it is just a SUPAR DUGNEON DAT U CAN'T BEET UNLES UR PARTEE IS SUPAR SUPAR POWERD!! You have to
yeah you guessed it
GRIND to Level 99 in order to stand a chance in there. God, I'm sick of grinding!
Disclaimer.
I have grinded to Level 99 in Final Fantasy 6 so many times that I swear if I ever have to do it again, I'm going to get a month's supply of Codine just to tolerate the boredom.
End of rant.
