Thread: Onimusha

    Default Onimusha

All the DMC vs. DmC talk has me bored.

We all know Capcom's best demon-slaying adventure game series was the one in the title of this thread.

Behold Samanosuke, a better hero than that cigarette Dante.

Onimusha Warlords was one of the first games I ever owned for my beloved PS2. The controls and fixed camera make people say it's Resident Evil with demons and samurai but ya know, it's better than all the RE games by a mile.

Just listen to that music and try to keep your pants on.

I'll do ya one better and mention that a bug in Onimusha was what inspired Dante's sword-juggling move in DMC. Kamiya mentioned this himself in an interview in EGM #150, I believe it was. The Xbox vs. Gamecube issue.

Samanosuke is cool, but Jacques is even better than him. I liked all the Onimusha games except Blade Warriors. Either 3 or Dawn of Dreams was my favorite, even though 3 was rushed and had a tighter budget than the first 2 games.
Xenogears is the tragic story of how your whole life can take a crappy turn, just because you happened to see a lady in a wedding dress before her wedding.

I played 1 and 2 and liked them a lot. They were sorta RE-inspired but with more action and a cool environment. Honestly I could do with some more Onimusha as long as they nailed the ambience of feudal Japan, which the first two games did spectacularly well with pre-rendered backgrounds.

I always liked one and two, but never played the third one. I recently found them at a local game store and bought all three for fifteen dollars. Great buy? I think so.

I'm with Shoeb, the best thing about Onimusha was the nearly perfect vibe created by the games' meticulous attention to atmosphere.
