So, this soldier has something important.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard689.png

    Hehe.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard690.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard691.png

I admit freely to being genuinely surprised when this guy jumped up.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard692.png

But he just mumbles trout about food.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard693.png

This bears the distinction of being something I actually have heard someone say when they were half asleep.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard694.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard695.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard696.png

This exchange was rewritten to tighten it up, and improve the tone. And I dunno about you, but if I were Locke, I'd be getting a little annoyed at this point.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard697.png

The sound of ALL YOUR WORST NIGHTMARES COMING TRUE

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard698.png

    ...But not really.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard699.png

And the fight against TunnelArmr will finish us out for the Three Scenarios.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard700.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard701.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard702.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard703.png

I don't believe any of this has been changed, except that "Runic" is now "Sealing Blade."

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard704.png

Here's how it appears in the command menu.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard705.png

The fight goes well, I get another Air Knife from him and immediately equip it and start wailing on him while Celise runs interference on the magic.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard707.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard708.png

    Somewhere, an Imperial Engineer cries.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard709.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard710.png

That's all, that's it! The Battle of Narshe is upon us!

Did I mention that the Empire already INVADED your city and killed, like real people? And dogs?

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard719.png

I made sure he always introduced himself the same way.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard720.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard721.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard724.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard725.png

Locke slams open the door and starts yelling, being the loudmouth he is.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard726.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard727.png

These are their "Oh sh*t" faces.

Anyway, the question is asked, how is this known? And...

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard728.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard729.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard731.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard732.png

    DRAMA!

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard733.png

    Thought this tightened up nicely.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard734.png

And apparently have been hanging around Locke a lot because you can't keep your BIG MOUTH SHUT

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard736.png

He now uses the Samurai-character's name, whatever it happens to be, here.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard737.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard738.png

Just when it looks like a fight is about to break out...a fight breaks out.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard739.png

    DRAAAAMAAAA!!

So, Kefka decides he's gonna just walk in there and get the dang thing himself.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard756.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard741.png

And our dudes and dudettes ain't having that sh*t.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard742.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard744.png

This is very close to the GBA version, if not exactly.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard745.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard746.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard747.png

Why did everyone look at Edgar? Did he let rip a massive fart or something?

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard749.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard750.png

    Meow.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard751.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard752.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard753.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard754.png

Final Fantasy VI just passed the Bedchel test.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard755.png

I thought this was a good change.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard757.png

Here's the parties I use, just so you know. Gau has Marshal, so he can wipe the floor with just about anything. Teaming Edgar and Tina gives me a full round of two multi-target attacks, powered up by the Hyper Wrist for Edgar, who'll use his Auto Bow Gun, and the Earrings for Tina, who will cast Fire. Party #1 is my Kefka Squad.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard766.png

Watch out for this guy. I don't know if it was a bug that happened while I was hacking the game, but he now casts Death pretty frequently. Sealing Sword is your friend.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard767.png

    So let's get to it!

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard771.png

Kefka puts up a surprisingly pathetic fight. No Icera or Lv3 Confu, he just sort of hits people and lets me steal a Super Ether.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard772.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard773.png

    Get lost, ya palooka

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard774.png

Is this a call back to Final Fantasy I on the NES, where when you escaped from a battle, it said "Close Call..."?

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard775.png

So, anyway, Tina seems to be having some kind of issue.

So Tina somehow becomes super powerful all of a sudden and decides her first act of awesomeness is to seriously everybody up.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard777.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard778.png

    Some kind of reaction, indeed.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard779.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard780.png

Didn't her mother ever teach her it isn't nice to yell at frozen magical creatures from long-forgotten wars?

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard781.png

As usual, Edgar's good advice goes unheeded.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard782.png

    ZAP!

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard783.png

And that's the last we see of Tina for a while. Imagine if they'd never found her.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard784.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard785.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard786.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard787.png

But, of course, the game has to go on, people paid good money to see this once upon a time...

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard788.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard789.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard790.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard791.png

This is the beginning of the second chapter of the game. You'll notice how they both begin with someone waking up in Arvis' bed.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard792.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard793.png

Who would've wanted to stay in Narshe while the party was looking for Tina? I guess if the game had enough ram for it, everyone could just go, but then the whole spiel about protecting the Eidolon and Banan would've become moot.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard794.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard795.png

Cayene has a really good line now and again.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard796.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard797.png

I actually stopped playing here the first time I played the game, because I was playing at a friend's house and he moved away after that.

The personality make-over creates a real feel. So congrats. The story overall is told well enough to exemplify humanity's problem of having a dangerous lust for power.

Even without dialogue and/or the ability to see it I would be horrified hearing about this story for the first time.

So, first things first. Mithril Shields are now available at the Armor Shop.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard801.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard802.png

    So I gets them.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard806.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard814.png

I decided not to do the scene here until later on.

Final Fantasy VI - Stand Guard809.pngFinal Fantasy VI - Stand Guard812.png

Just passing through Figaro, and see if you can spot the Final Fantasy Tactics reference here.

    Final Fantasy VI000.pngFinal Fantasy VI001.png

Everybody in Colingen seems to be either freaking out about property damage or going on and on about some girl named Rachel that I didn't bring to an untimely demise and STOP LOOKING AT ME.

    Final Fantasy VI002.png

    ...And people die.

    Final Fantasy VI003.pngFinal Fantasy VI004.pngFinal Fantasy VI005.pngFinal Fantasy VI006.png

She should have let him fall. He's a thief, he coulda just rolled with it.

    Final Fantasy VI007.pngFinal Fantasy VI008.png

But she doesn't, and so loses her memory.

    Final Fantasy VI009.pngFinal Fantasy VI010.pngFinal Fantasy VI011.png

trout is pretty bleak for Locke.

    Final Fantasy VI012.pngFinal Fantasy VI013.png

you think that I'm going to stop but I won't stop saying UNMARKED SPOILERS AHEAD

So, anyway! My take on this whole thing is that the Crazy Old Man (thusly named) came to Locke when Rachel was recovering from her fall and asked Locke an open ended question like "You'd do anything to protect her, wouldn't you?" And Locke said "yes," so what happened was that this guy preserved Rachel mostly without Locke's consent. This has to be a really awkward situation for Locke to be in.

    Final Fantasy VI000.pngFinal Fantasy VI001.png

But I'd rather focus on the fact that he's now called "Crazy Old Man."

    Final Fantasy VI002.pngFinal Fantasy VI003.png

    Wait for it...

    Final Fantasy VI004.pngFinal Fantasy VI005.png

    Final Fantasy VI006.pngFinal Fantasy VI007.png

    Sidequest: activated!

    Final Fantasy VI008.png

Remember, Locke has more dialogue than any other character. He's choosing this particular dialogue to smurfin whine about his sorta not completely dead girlfriend and ...sh*t, so anyway!!

    Final Fantasy VI009.png

We get some informations of importance about Tina!

    Final Fantasy VI010.png

The red dot on the map is where I am, JUST IN CASE ANYBODY DOESN'T KNOW. I have the choice right now of walking north to the white dot in what looks like a dragon's throat, and getting a Chocobo and ridin it down like a girl but I ain't gonna do dat.

    Final Fantasy VI011.png

    I'm walkin. Screw these guys.

    Final Fantasy VI012.png

This thing is great. It does like, about 70% of the damage Macias is doing to EVERYTHING on the screen. Seriously, having Edgar along is something the programmers were nudging the player towards in this manner.

    Final Fantasy VI013.png

I just wanted to stop for a second and say that I smurfin hate these smurfin birds who halve your goddamn HP all the time!

    Final Fantasy VI014.png

Here's what I brought on this trip, courtesy of Edgar's half-price discount at Figaro Castle.

    Final Fantasy VI015.png

    WTF?

    Final Fantasy VI016.pngFinal Fantasy VI017.png

    So you mean America?

    Final Fantasy VI018.png

    So you mean Canada?

Ok, I'm not here for a friggin sociology lesson, where's the fireball wrapped up chick in the nightie?

    -unmarked spoilers ahead-

So, we're goin' into Zozo, hopefully to find Tina, and I'll show you how to make some money, too.

    Final Fantasy VI021.png

It's always raining in Zozo, and while the people in Jidoor say everyone here is a liar, we'll soon find out that's not quite true, either.

    Final Fantasy VI020.png

Hill Gigas is an enemy that appears outdoors in Zozo. You can steal a Gigas Glove, which is worth a lot of gil. I use NoiseBlaster and make him earthquake himself while I steal it.

    Final Fantasy VI028.png

I'd be very surprised if anyone knew where this quote is from.

    Final Fantasy VI029.png

The Chain Saw is kind of a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it has more attack power than the Drill, but on the other hand, the success rate of the insta-kill attack and the rate at which it occurs make it less than ideal for boss fights. I stick with my Drill for those.

    Final Fantasy VI030.png

This guy isn't lying, he's just being kind of a horse's ass.

    Final Fantasy VI031.png

Whereas THIS guy is full of sh.

    Final Fantasy VI032.png

And yet, this guy isn't technically lying either.

    Final Fantasy VI034.png

I'm not saying I'm going to write a FF6 fanfic that starts right here, but I did have that idea.

    Final Fantasy VI038.png

This is a rare example of an item that was totally unchanged from Woolsey's version.

    Final Fantasy VI039.png

Zozo is not the first dungeon town in a JRPG, because Dragon Quest 1 had Hauksness, I believe, where you get the Armor.

    Final Fantasy VI035.png

    Fatal Fury reference.

    Final Fantasy VI036.png

    This ing guy!!

    Final Fantasy VI042.pngFinal Fantasy VI043.pngFinal Fantasy VI048.png

He's an even bigger prick than Vargas. Stick it, Dadaluma!

    Final Fantasy VI049.png

    Wakey wakey, eggs and baccy

    Final Fantasy VI050.pngFinal Fantasy VI051.pngFinal Fantasy VI052.pngFinal Fantasy VI053.png

I wonder what Ramuh was puzzled by.

    Final Fantasy VI054.png

So, Tina has a bit of an episode for a minute and then falls flat on her dumb face.

    Final Fantasy VI055.png

    SUSPENSE, DRAMA, INTRIGUE

    Final Fantasy VI056.png

Yeah, what's the deal with that?

Yeah, whatever...we know better, don't we!

    Final Fantasy VI058.pngFinal Fantasy VI059.pngFinal Fantasy VI060.pngFinal Fantasy VI061.png

Is this meant to be an oblique reference to Final Fantasy IV, what with Rydia and the summoning and all that?

    Final Fantasy VI062.pngFinal Fantasy VI063.png

"We were all pretty pissed off that we didn't see it coming."

    Final Fantasy VI064.pngFinal Fantasy VI065.png

Tempted to make a Beavis and Butthead joke here, but no.

    Final Fantasy VI066.pngFinal Fantasy VI067.png

"Cuz, you know, chicks dig powers."

    Final Fantasy VI068.pngFinal Fantasy VI069.pngFinal Fantasy VI070.png

This question had not occurred to me to ask when I read it for the first time, but I anticipated the answer just the same as anybody else.

    Final Fantasy VI071.png

    WTF?

    Final Fantasy VI072.pngFinal Fantasy VI073.png

This conversation is considerably longer than anything that's come before, especially because the characters aren't moving or doing anything really while it's going on.

    Final Fantasy VI074.png

The full version of this line is stored in the code to Final Fantasy III v1.0 (the original SNES release), but was unused in-game.

    Final Fantasy VI075.pngFinal Fantasy VI076.png

    Yeah, what gives?

    Final Fantasy VI088.pngFinal Fantasy VI089.png

    Final Fantasy VI090.png

This line was cleared up a bit.

    Final Fantasy VI091.pngFinal Fantasy VI092.png

Those would be the words I'd use to market this game.
