    :monster: Soundtracks - Location Music

So the next edition of Eyes on Final Fantasy soundtracks will be looking at Location themes.

What's your favourite Town/City/Area theme and why?

I may contact you via Mognet for a small interview and you'll be featured in the next edition of the feature.

Final Fantasy IX OST - Terra - YouTube

"The Place I'll Return to Someday/A Place To Call Home" saw many splendid variations throughout the game. They were all amazing pieces of music but none so wonderfully capture the emotion that "Terra" does. Now what is that emotion? I don't know if I'd call it sadness per se.... There is a haunting and melancholy quality to it for certain but it's not really a "time to pluck at your heartstrings" tune like Aeris' theme or the Opera music. It's just...desolation...hopelessness...tragedy. The sadness it invokes is more subtle and thus more beautiful. It is the sadness of Zidane discovering the home he longed to find for so long is the last thing he could have imagined or wanted. It is the sadness of a dead world that will never truly be free. Garland, the Genomes, the people of Terra - they're locked in an unceasing and hopeless cycle. Terra will only fall to decay again eventually and then everything will begin once more.

"Terra" is the theme of nothingness or perhaps it is the theme of standing on the brink of nothingness.

Fishermans Horizon is one of my favourite themes, simply because of all the 'doo doos'

I really love Sulyya Springs as well; that's an amazing, underrated location theme.

I also really like Judgement Day - it really fits the theme of a Doomsday scenario.

Movement in Green which plays in the Moonflow is also spectacular.

It is also used in FF13-2, which is a game I have been playing a lot lately, trying to platinum it and all.

Already platinum! That bloody 5000 coin trophy damn near killed me. I believe Sulyya springs was played in the XIII-2's Archlyte steppe during the rains.

    No, that's the gapra whitewoods.

And yeah, I am basically just missing the slot machine crap and like 4 monster entries. 157/160.

The bestiary fragment is actually not too bad when you have kill:libra on everyone in the party.

-edit- 158 really, because I haven't picked up the chocochick fragment for some reason.

"Someday the Dream Will End" - FFX is pretty beautiful. I feel like it captures the sombre atmosphere that Zanarkand should hold, the end of their journey.

This. And I love how it comes just after To Zanarkand and is played literally nonstop until you reach the dome.

For a less dramatic one, I rather like "Under Her Control", the Deling City Theme (FF VIII).

I considered "Someday the Dream Will End" but it's not really a location theme. It plays in Zanarkand yes but it also plays several points before that.

It's the same for "Seeking Power" from FFXII. A truly marvelous piece and it plays in the Paramina Rift but it's not exclusively the theme of that location.

Does it? Where else does it play?

Sure you're not confusing it with one of the many other Suteki Da Ne mixes that makes up 50% of the soundtrack?

Just off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure it plays when Tidus and Yuna are talking on the boat to Killika before Sin attacks. Specifically it's when Tidus says Jecht died and Yuna says ten years ago is when Jecht appeared in Spira.

It definitely plays after Operation Mi'Hen. When Sin turns and leaves and Tidus screams "don't you run away from me!", it starts up while he begins to run and Yuna says she'll summon.

    EDIT:
