Your Favourite Characters in the Manga/Anime universe

Paranoia Agent is my favorite anime. A supporting character with only one episode dedicated to him resonated with me the most. Yuichi's unraveling sanity was my favorite episode. I strangely find myself thinking about it now and then at random, even years later.

Buuut, it's hard to give favorite status to someone with 24 minutes of screen life. I choose Shinji Ikari from Evangelion. I really like him even though he is by design not remotely likable. He is interesting more than strong. That's a risk for a main character. I'm also a pussy and would react very similarly to such terrible situations, especially at his age.

Shinichiro Watanabe is my favourite anime director making it no surprise that my fav anime characters come primarily from his shows. Namely, Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop is one of my fav noir characters from any media. He's wonderful combination of a smooth/put-upon protagonist who in lesser hands would be rendered as the stereotypical brooding hero. Not to say that he doesn't sulk every now and then but for the most part he's a happy go-lucky smartass with king-fu skills that rival Bruce Lee.

I really love this image of him, it captures his lazy brand of cool so effortlessly and the black and white colour scheme gives him a sense of melancholy which also rings true of the character. If I can find a better quality image of this I'll probably use it in a personalised calendar I'm making here which will also include my other fav anime characters like Zoro from One Piece and Guts from Berserk.

Spike and Gren from Cowboy Bebop -- Gren had a more interesting backstory than most of the characters and he was the first animated character I've send who was also transgendered
Ippo from Hajime no Ippo - little guy with a lot of heart (he's a lot like me minus the guy part)
The Female Titan from Attack on Titan (she's just badass and smart)

I am impressed and pleased that Ranma characters got so many mentions. I love Ryoga Hibiki, and his naivete. And Wolf is into some real oldies but goodies. Ryoko is probably a definite must, and for me Washu as well. Both from Tenchi

Nobody's probably seen it, but Louie The Rune Soldier is one of my favorite animes. So Louie tops my list

Nausicaa is my hero
Misaka from Attack on Titan is a flat-out bamf


And I guess even though it's like super mainstream and cliche, L from Deathnote amused me
