Thread: Jem

    Default Jem

So I turned in my Man Card befor I even knew I had one. Growing up, mid-90s Shawn Michaels was my hero and to this day I still wish I was as sexy as him.

So I had no fear my testicles would shrivel up and run away if I watched this show. I came upon it when I first saw the intro in a best of 80s cartoon compilation on YT.

Now, I. Love. The. 80's. The fashion, the music, the lingo - it all captivates me in a way nothing else ever has. I love it all completely in an un-ironic way and I wish I had been around back then. As such, this show seemed like it would be a rad way to indulge my 80s obsession. I mean, just look at their hair! And some girls in the show even had side ponytails. More girls need to wear those. I can get not liking the big hair look anymore but side ponytails are cute.

Oh right, Jem. I just finished Season 1 and I quite enjoyed myself. The voice-acting is decent and the writing is surprisingly tight for a show that was made to sell merch. Each episode has a nice little moral lesson or some character development and it all works quite well. Jem and the Holograms are all likable even if I still don't get why Jerrica didn't just tell Rio about her being Jem at the start of the series.

I know some people root for the Misfits because Jem and co. are goody two-shoes but I just can't bring myself to like them. (well, apart from Stormer) They're just too obnoxious. Now Eric Raymond is a fine villain and is a great representative of the hated corporate suit stereotype. You even feel sorry for him at times considering he has to put up with Pizzazz.

Speaking of the bad guys though, this show has a lot more danger than you'd think considering it's a kids show about a girl band. Eric has pulled some very underhanded stunts in just this first season and the Misfits seem to have the Chaos Touch. Every time they do anything it almost always leads to near fatal accidents. In fact, a good person on the internet also noticed this oddity.

Well that's all for me right now. i think it's a fairly entertaining show and I will continue to watch the remaining two seasons.

    Anyone here seen this show?

Jasmin and I watched the whole series in probably a month a few months back. As soon as I saw this thread's title, before I knew it was about the show, I went "JEM! Jem is outrageous, truly truly truly outreous. etc."

It was good before the Misfits took backstage to whatever those bee people were.

That probably happens start of Season 3. Not there yet. Season 2 has been really good so far though.

I think the show does an admirable job with tackling issues. The ep where Kimber's diary is stolen was particularly good from that point of view.

I like shows from the 80's and 90's since they tackle issues without being super corny about it.

Boy Meets World is the greatest show ever when it comes to dealing with issues so I don't know what either one of you are talking about.

Finished the series. Great stuff from start to finish.

    Here are my favorite songs:

so I just totally realized Jerrica never did tell Rio about her being Jem.
    Poor, poor, idiot.

Anyway, my favorite songs. They are in no particular order:

    Who Is He Kissing
    (SPOILER)

    Music is Magic
    (SPOILER)

When it's Only Me and the Music
    (SPOILER)

    Dear Diary
    (SPOILER)

    Universal Appeal
    (SPOILER)

    I Like Your Style
    (SPOILER)

    I Am A Giant
    (SPOILER)

    Midsummer Night's Madness
    (SPOILER)

    Mind Games
    (SPOILER)

    Perfect Match
    (SPOILER)

There are many, many more great songs and I am very glad I found this site:
Starlight MusicBox - thejemplayers jimdo page!

It has fan-made albums of all the best songs in the series, including a lot of extended arrangements and also plenty of songs redone in Spanish. it's totally tubular.

Honestly, if I had the patience to look for the show's album I would buy it and listen to it once a week for the rest of my life.
