BBC News - Star Trek style 'tractor beam' created by scientists
We've got a tractor beam folks. All we need's a warp core, shields and phasers (although I suppose this tractor beam can do double duty) and you can all join my crew.
What sciencey stuff has blown your mind recently?
I never understood why they call it a tractor beam.

That is awesome. Too bad the White House refused to build a Death Star, or we could already be on the way to an intergalactic battleship.
The assumption becomes even more bizarre if I'm actually captain.

Speaking of Star Trek we also invented transparent aluminum a few years back.
Unfortunately it only stays transparent for a split second or something.
Plus there was the invention of "teleportation"

I somehow managed to install a cloaking device on my iPhone. The only problem is that the effect is so strong that I can't seem to locate the phone anywhere...
The other possibility is that I've lost it.
If anybody invents a holodeck, it will be the last invention in human history.

well there's already 3d virtual environment rooms, all we need now is tactile support...
Call me when they start replacing air travel with this.
