'Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns' Soundtrack Update!

A report on Square Portal released on 26th January reveals several new details about the soundtrack for the highly anticipated game.

Masashi Hamauzu will be composing a new theme for Lightning. Hamauzu will also be composing a theme for one of the four worlds in Nova Chrysalia. Other composers who have been named are Mitsuto Suzuki and Naoshi Mizuta. There is a fourth composer who is yet to be named in reports - one wonders if Nobuo Uematsu could make a shocking return to Final Fantasy?

The music heard in the game will also depend on the time of day; "Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns" uses a day and night system - afterall the game is relying heavily on the concept of time. It is a brand new feature for a Final Fantasy game and perhaps it will be something Square Enix continues to use in future titles.

This is sounding more and more like Final Fantasy: Majora's Mask. Hopefully they pull it off as it will be awesome if they do!

I am absolutely loving this. Final Fantasy have always loved themes for their music; no doubt this game will have many "[Character/World]'s theme" in their soundtracks.

I'm still not sold on this game though, XIII and XIII-2 were... okay. And I wasn't a fan of the soundtracks at all. I dunno, maybe it will prove me wrong!

I thought the soundtrack to XIII was better than XII, but not as good as the classics. XIII-2 was just laughable with its bizarre vocals during the tracks.

wasn't uematsu involved with the ff13-2 soundtrack already anyway?

anyway, suzuki mostly does electronic mixes of other tracks (its not bad though)
naoshi has had some work under his belt, he did ff tracks for 11 too iirc, and parasite eve 2, and obviously ff13-2. i think hamazau did stuff for ffx besides ff13 too, didn't he? anyway, i'm sure no one disliked the oerba theme i think he's responsible for that one.

i really liked ff13-2's soundtrack mr murder. it was a poppy environment with poppy characters, why not make the music poppy as well? it was a game that didn't take itself too seriously, and i think it was a necessity after ff13 i feel.

Without the weird 'time and space' vocals it would have been decent. Just not my thing. Also the red chocobo song was probably the worst song ever to be in a FF game.

I loved the XIII OST despite never having played the game. Hamauzu is one heck of a talented composer. Hope this game's soundtrack gets to be just as epic

I liked a few of the tracks from Final Fantasy XIII-2, but I agree with you, for the most part. I hope they really go a different direction with this iteration of the series.
