Chocobo The Memo system: Good or Bad?

So FFII introduced a unique system where your characters could memorize key words and then use them with different major charcters to discover more information and help move the plot along. So what are your thoughts on this? I mean everyone always focuses on the battle system but the game had some other ideas as well.

It seemed somewhat underutilized. I think there could be potential to do some cool stuff with it, but it didn't seem to add much over and above using standard triggers.

I have always felt like this should be a natural system for any RPG, because it allows the player to actually interact with the NPC's.
I think it would add a lot of depth to any game.

I don't think it was utilized enough in FF2 to be considered any more advanced than a manual key-item functionality like later games have.

I feel like it could've brought a cool Point-and-Click element to the game. However, all the terms were way too obvious so, like many other elements to this game, it went underutilized.

Not bad. Just weak like most of the parts in this game.

I would say there's a reason they never went back to it.
You think a minor thing like the end of the world was gonna do me in?

My friend J.D hates this game and he thinks it's the least important to the series and shouldn't be played at all, I clearly don't agree with him as I am a fan of rare and diferent things when it comes to rpgs, I like to experiment diferent systems and when I got my hands on this relic, it blowed my mind. I'm currently playing it, and the Keyword system is quite nice for its time, of course it's short and almost straightforward but hey! they had a lot of limitations back in those dark days. I think this FF is more japanese oriented so maybe that's the cause of why many USA citizens hate this game.

As Zen Beoulve says, it was good for its time. It was a neat little system and I enjoyed it. I think it's something that perhaps could've been developed or utilised more later on in the series and it's a shame that it wasn't.

    Forward, the Light Brigade!'
    Was there a man dismay'd?
    Not tho'(though) the soldiers knew
      Some one had blunder'd:
    Theirs not to make reply,
    Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die:
    Into the valley of Death
      Rode the six hundred.

    Cannon to right of them,
    Cannon to left of them,
    Cannon in front of them
      Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
    Boldly they rode and well,
    Into the jaws of Death,
    Into the mouth of Hell
      Rode the six hundred.

Like with the ATEs in FFIX, I loved it and would have liked it to have been used more, but I guess it was underused (I need to play FFII again).

You want it to be interesting, but 2 seems pretty rushed

Still, it has a good story and cool designs, and the thing with the masks was sufficiently mysterious
