Most of them have death scenes which wrench at the heartstrings. Sad, depressing affairs that beg for a happier resolution, a chance to finish what was left undone, to continue their story.

Galuf goes out in the biggest blaze of glory almost any video game character has ever had, going past zero HP to continue laying the smack down on Exdeath. You just can't come back from that much awesome. Everything else would be an anticlimax. Galuf reached the pinnacle to which all badass characters aspire.
