I still can't really figure out where Bunny and qwerty are getting their information that they're stating as fact. A step ladder is still a ladder. Try looking up 'stepladder' or 'step ladder' in a dictionary. Ladder on Wikipedia also details the A-frame and the step ladder, while stepladder itself redirects to ladder.

And because this is an EoFF debate, I suppose I should add that everyone who disagrees with me is a terrible person who wants the terrorists to win and probably even agrees with NeoCracker's gaming opinions.
    I call it a ladder.

So then, do I not agree with myself?

Great, Raistlin. Way to open up a paradox. Now the world has to explode.

Well, sure. A ladder is a ladder, but this particular ladder is called a "stepladder," because it can support itself.

Apparently, I have been declared banished.

    Exactly. Therefore, it's both.

A square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square.

A square is a rectangle, but not all rectangles are squares. Some are, though.

A stepladder is a ladder, but not all ladders are stepladders. Some are, though. Like the one in the picture.

EDIT: Did anyone else have to go through these kind of logic puzzles as part of an IQ test for high school, where they try to figure out which class you go in? xD

I work in construction, and if you called that a step ladder on site you would get laughed at. Step ladders are small, ladders are tall, whether they lean against a wall or stand up as an A-frame. Also, proper A-frame ladders can be opened out straight and leaned up against a wall for extra height.

If all Florbs are Floobs, and all Floobs are Glorps, are all Florbs Glorps?

    Phil has declared it so.

Yeah, absolutely, you would get laughed at over it! It doesn't make it any more or less correct, though. If I was standing next to someone and wanted someone to get that for me, I would say "Can you bring that ladder over here?", but if asked "Is this a ladder... or a stepladder?" then I would still reply "Technically? Both."

I should have been more clear, I'm saying that before loading up for a job or something, if someone asked you to get 'the stepladder' and you came back with a tall A-frame ladder like the one in the picture then you would have grabbed the wrong thing. That is not what construction workers mean when they say step ladder, they want a small, probably 3 or 4 rung max, ladder. Whether it is defined on Wikipedia as such really holds no bearing to how it is used in real life.

All step-parents are parents, but not all parents are step-parents. Some are, though.

All rectangles are polygons, but not all polygons are rectangles. Some are, though.
All prime numbers are real numbers, but not all real number are prime numbers. Some are, though.
All dvds are disks, but not all disks are dvds. Some are, though.

There is no end to this.

    EDIT:
OOC:Also, my ladder left me. Now I have a stepladder. I miss my ladder.
    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.
