after watching all of rivers story before these episodes are so much more meaningful and heartbreaking and everything makes so much more sense

...But... It'd been announced that the Christmas episode would be the one in which Matt Smith regenerated. Not sure why you'd have expected it in the 50th. Moffat lies, yes, but he doesn't lie that much

Yes, things have been a bit to quiet (pun definitely intended) on that front lately. About time one of the best monsters since the Weeping Angels came back.
As much as I liked John Hurt and the 50th anniversary it was a shame that a whole regeneration was wasted on a movie. Here I was hoping the series would stop after the 12th lifetime and be picked up again in twenty years when our story telling and technology has changed and make us reflect on the times and trout like everyone from the 80's gets to

Yeah, that's not going to happen. Doctor Who is BBC's most successful brand at the moment, they're not taking it off the air any time soon throwaway line in the 70's or not.

The very serial that introduced the regeneration limit (The Deadly Assassin iirc) also revealed that there are ways to get extra regeneration cycles, as The Master was given one in the episode. Doctor Who definitely isn't going anywhere.
Moffat has said The Time of the Doctor will end on a cliffhanger though. Of course, Moffat is well known for lying about his shows so who knows what will happen.
