I think the best 5 are probably Ffix, dqv, xenogears, fftactics, and chrono trigger.
My favorite 5 are tactics ogre, shining force ii, valkyria chronicles 2, dq8 and final fantasy vii
My favorite five that I've actually played a great deal of and/or beaten:

I made it about halfway through before my old computer bit the dust; never got to copy the save over. I will eventually finish it.
It gets extremely emotional towards the end. The final boss battle is my favorite of all time. It's just so sad.
