For me it's not a matter of maturity, it's a matter of interests. Gaming is my primary interest and I was born at a time that was sort the cusp of gaming being a big thing. While a great many people my age certainly grew up with gaming like I did, many other people my age did not. Furthermore, as more people my age do things like get married, have kids, get houses and real jobs, and basically all the things that I'm not doing, they tend to put hobbies like gaming on the backburner.
It's still a major interest for me, and it's more likely to still be a major interest for those younger than me than those older than me. Thus, most of my friends are younger than I am.
