FFVI Cid pretty clearly regrets his actions after realising what he's actually been doing. I can't see how he's anything approaching villainous. The worst that can be said of him for certain is that, before the party meets him, he is ignorant of the effects of his actions, and literally as soon as the Espers turn themselves to Magicite, he has a heel realisation and performs a heel face turn.

I like Cid from FFV, however Cid Highwind of FFVII is rather clearly the best Cid. Being playable makes a massive difference to this kind of thing, not to mention the personality given to him. If you think of the time FFVII came out, similar characters like Wolverine were really successful around those years.

Final Fantasy XII's Cid. The pretty playboy Cid for fan girlish reasons and Dr Cid makes a excellent villain.
FFXII had an awesome cid that did the mad scientist thing perfectly.

As much as I love Cid Highwind, I'm going to throw a vote out for Cid Randell. I love his depth and characterization, and the wondrous things he brings to FFTA.

That's not a bad list.....but FFI does not have a Cid, I'm sure you knew that though.I'd rank those Cids in that order ( from best to worst ) : FFVII > FFXIII > FFX > FFIX > FFVIII > FFXII > FFV > FFI > FFII > FFIII > FFVI ( Oh, God, as much as I love the game itself, I LOATHE that rotten piece of **** that is FFVI's Cid, for everything that he did to the poor espers like if they were soulless piece of trash, he deserves the all kinds of torturing, from A to Z).
I have to go with either FFIV Cid or FFVII.
FFII Cid helped rescue Hilda and then, with his dying breath, gave you an airship.
He was cool.
Cid Highwind is the obvious, though eminently correct, answer. Hilarious character and just fun to play.
