My most famous case of misheard lyrics (I wrote them down because I was trying to learn the song, when I was about 10, and my auntie discovered it) (it was her music, incidentally she listened to a lot of REM as well) was Two Princes by the Spin Doctors.
Highlights include

That's what I said now

(lots of headshots in my adaptation!)

That's clearly what they're saying though! what is the lyric actually?
Also I guess MC Hammer wasn't saying "King Tushdi", presumably some old Egyptian dude, but actually saying "Can't Touch This". Listening to it now I have absolutely no idea how I heard this wrong, because it's not exactly unclear.
