Default Star Trek not movie thread

I have recently (a few months ago) started to watch Star Trek The Next Generation with my boyfriend because he loves the show and has watched all of the episodes of all of the Star Treks ever if I am not mistaken. I have been saving monies to take him on a movie night to watch the new movie. Anyways, I am doing this to try and take an interest in his interests or something along those lines. I watched a few episodes of the original Star Trek and it was hilarious, although I don't think it was intended to be. You could make a very good drinking game out of all of the intense sweaty close ups.

I am a Star Trek n00b. I am at the start of season 3 of TNG. Tell me about Star Trek

Well for starters, you're at the point where TNG started to get very good.

Things worth bothering with - The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, The Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, The Undiscovered Country, First Contact, the latest two films
Things not really worth bothering with - Voyager (unless the Doctor takes centre stage), Enterprise, all the films not mentioned above

I want to watch the old movies sometime but I'm scared they'll be too antiquated.

I watched one Star trek movie that had the cast from TNG and they were on some planet and Picard seemed to have almost gotten a girlfriend.

Can't remember what it was called.

Also, I'm glad the uniforms got looser and that Wesley stopped wearing grandma sweaters when he started working on the bridge.

I think that was the ninth film, Star Trek: Insurrection.

I've never actually watched a full season. Or all of one of the films come to think of it.

I saw a lot of odds and ends of the originals, TNG, DS:9 and Voyager but never a whole season of any of them.

I should really get around to it sometime.

Dude the old Star Trek movies are fantastic and definitely hold up to the test of time.

    Even Huxley agrees!

Anyways, I love Star Trek. I was raised on it. I was quoting TOS and the movies in everyday conversation by the time I was in kindergarten.

I would include Search for Spock since it's not terrible and jumping to the Voyage Home without it might leave her slightly confused as to a lot of things about how that movie begins.

Watch the Borg movie. Otherwise known as Star Trek: First Contact.

I used to know every line to that smurfing movie, I watched it so much. It's sooooo smurfing good.

WRONG! It was Star Trek: His Erection

Anyway, my parent's and I watched this show back when it first aired. We picked up on it somewhere around season 2 (dad was kind of a fan of the original, so he decided to give it a go). Since it was syndicated so quickly, we really didn't have to wait long to see other episodes, which was a rarity in those days. Couldn't just pop on the Netflix to see what you missed, you know!

Anyway, I am a big fan of The Next Generation. The other shows I have more of a floating interest in, but I been meaning to rectify that for years now.

charliepanayi's list of things worth watching is pretty much complete but he didn't mention that TOS is also mostly worth watching. I guess The Search for Spock is okay too.
