Phil Harrison of Microsoft, speaking to Kotaku, goes a little more specific by explaining that each game would require a one time activation code to install the game, included when you purchase a Xbox One game. Once the game is installed via a code, which is tied directly to a XBL account using the internet, the game can be played on that account as well as other users on the same console. A game will not have to be purchased multiple times within a family. "It sits on your harddrive and you have permission to play that game as long as you’d like," Phil Harrison states.

BoB you do realize there's a difference between a split-screen game on a console and a multiplayer network game on the PC, yes? Because the only game I can call to mind that let you do multiple-computer multiplayer with one copy of the game are the earlier Command and Conquer games. You're annoyed because Steam is failing to meet an expectation that nobody aside from you has ever had

Well, I just finished watching the stream, and it went about as expected.
Two thirds of the show was spent showcasing "Hey, look, you can browse the net while you watch a movie then chat with your friend on Skype while you switch over to the price is right, via voice command! OH YEAH AND...IT PLAYS GAMES TOO!"
There was very little focus on games, and the majority of the time that was spent on games was spent on sports games. The one game that got actual in game showcasing was Call of Duty Ghosts, which isn't even going to be an exclusive. Hell, the biggest franchise ever exclusive to the Xbox brand, Halo, got a tv show talk.

So far I can't say I'm very excited. The fact that I play a lot of used/rented games isn't aided by the fact that they've confirmed you'll have to pay a fee to play used games.
The one thing that peaked my interest the whole show was that little snippet of Quantum Break they showed.
But E3 is just a few weeks away, so maybe they'll show us more actual games then.

another thing that made me laugh is that people watching the stream on their xbox using the kinect, kept having it get interrupted anytime an announcer said xbox.. priceless

Can it play games?
Very annoyed, but it was always going to be that way with subscription games. We do have two copies of various games we both couldn't bear to go without, but that's for two different PCs and two different users. If it's two users on the same PC, I'd not expect to buy twice (and wouldn't have to - FFXIV lets you have multiple characters per sub)... but obviously with FFXIV, we both play at the same time, so yeah.So, out of curosity, how do you feel about having to buy multiple copies of FFXI/FFXIV + subscriptions?
Pike: It's different because I'm talking about single player games, too. When I buy Mass Effect 3 on the Xbox 360, both of us can play it on our own logins. If I were to buy it on Steam, I can play it, but if Danielle wants to play it she has to either buy it on her own login or use my login, and I'm not cool with people using my login because I want my achievements to be my own.
Glad it seems to not be going down the Steam road, though.
