Thread: How do you game?

    Default How do you game?

I started thinking about how I play through certain games and figured everybody has their own playstyle, so I want to hear about them. This goes for all types of games, whether it be mmo's, moba's (LoL, Smite, Dota, HoN), fps's, rpg's... spill it.

I guess I will start by giving my example of what I am talking about.

For most rpg's as soon as I am able to explore the world, I go off and explore everything I possibly can until i have to continue the story in order to unlock more stuff, I try to wait to beat the game as long as possible unless it is one that has a new game +, or one that lets you play after you beat it (Ni No Kuni).. I like to max out the characters, get every achievement and then keep going until there is nothing left to do in the game.

For FPS's I tend to just go through the storyline.. sure there is little side stuff but that isn't what it is really about... not much to it

MMO's- I am that guy that blasts through levels, unless it has an awesome main storyline like swtor had, i took a little time with that one. I love crafting and haven't had a good crafting experiencs since early EQ2 days before they nerfed it

MOBA's- I tend to be the jungler in most Moba's... I like testing out those heroes that dont normally jungle in the positions and make them work... like storm spirit, or heimerdinger (yes its a thing), I like the strategy it takes of when to go to what lane, when to initiate, the timers on the buffs and global objectives, the crazy all in mode

    Enough about me.. Tell me..

FPS - I tend to play the role of a sniper, sticking to as long a range as possible.
MOBA - Support roles. I like to stay out of the action until the right moments.
MMO - Never played one, but I liked having a white mage/green mage/archer combo in FFXII until end game when I the end game greatswords.

So in short, I am passive big damage/big play type of style. Staying out of the action as much as I can, and when I am in the action it's focused on keeping allies healthy/buffed if that option is available.

    As for me,
Rpg : I agree with you. I usually explore the worlds hidden items, quests and levelup my character until max level this is my first priority. Major storyline is my second priority. Well at least until my character is strong enough to face difficult enemies haha

Fps : I usually try to find hidden items, maybe bonus quest for more exp this is my first priority for fps too. Major storyline still second priority. hehe

ok now for MMO and MOBA I don't understand about those kind of gameplay. Because I just know FPS and RPG. Can you explain it to me about MMO and MOBA? Thanks

World of Warcraft, Guild wars and FFXI are examples of a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online role playing game). Typically you get one type of character like a close range fighter, an archer, a mage and other sort of characters.

Dota and League of Legends are examples of MOBA Games (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, I think). is where a team of usually 3 or 5 face against another team in order to gain control of the Map and destroy the enemy base. I see 5 main groups of characters. Attack Damage Carry (High physical damage, low survivablity), Ability Power Carry (High Magical Damage, low survivabilty), Brusier (Medium Damage, medium survivalbity), Support (Low Damage, Low survivablity, good at buffing the team), and Tanks (Low damage, high survivablity).

For RPG I tend to be the same way only I tend to also lvl up ridiculously. For example the last few times I've run through FF7 I don't leave midgard till I'm at least lv 20, this past time I remember I had a bolt, fire and ice 2 before I left. When your in the temple of the ancients and you get bahamut for the first time I lvl it up once before I leave and I don't even go into the temple until I have Aeriss' final limit.

for FPS I tend to just stick to the story, I only bother with fpss with a good story and a sci theme so not cod or battlefield or anything like that. I do enjoy co-op and stuff like horde modes and stuff like that with friends.

MMO - I love questing and hate having a quests in my quest log and must do them as quick as possible, I also try to do every quest I can, I'm also one of the rare people I meet that love daily quests. I tend to stick to raiding and dungeoning then PVP but I usually pick on good character that I'm comfortable doing pvp with because I like pvp because fighting other players is much more engaging than npcs. But I like raiding more, I'm the kinda guy that looks at a boss fight and can usually make out what is happening and going to happen. I learnt most of my wow and swtor fights from doing them more then watching videos, but I also lean the fight from watching a video. I'm also usually in a leadership position in more guilds I'm in in mmos.

MOBAs: I tend to stick with range dps

Adventure/Action 3rd person (eg: Darksiders): Complete the story don't try to hard to 100% these but you can be sure that is the game tells you to go one way the other way will have a chest.

FPS - The person who keeps the respawn screen warm. :P
MOBA - Wherever really, I'm usually one of the last to lock-in and tend to go with whatever needs filling as I can generally do any role.
MMOs - Again anything really, my mains tend to be healers but I usually also have a tank and dps characters too.

RPGs - I explore as soon as the game lets me. For example I managed to clock around 120 hours of playtime on Skyrim before I ever went to top of the mountain to visit the Greybeards (I think that's who there are) which is like one of the first quests the game gives you

For 4X/TBS games I tend to go the science victory route and win largely through diplomacy but in grand strategy it's blobbing and world domination all the way

I play all genres and all kinds of games across pc, console, and handheld, and that's reflected in my playstyles. Especially since the playstyle variety is what keeps games like Call of Duty and MOBAs as games you can play for countless hours on end.

In Dota, I really can play most roles and most heroes (I know, there's a lot), but if I had to pick a favorite it would be mid-game STR gankers like Alchemist, Beastmaster, and Pudge.

In FPS multiplayer I don't snipe as much, but I do spend some time on the other end of the spectrum with just a shotgun, or no weapon at all, running around combat knifing people. My favorite role is point-man, I'm planting the Tactical Insertions and booby-traps, and mopping the floor with the enemy team and taking the objective.

    A sample of my work:

MMO: Tank, craft and gather. Encourage active chatting in parties so I can meet new friends.

RPG: Usually I don't have much choice in these, although I'll note that I tend to overlevel where possible so the fighting is easier (it generally leads to more gil, too) and I can focus more on the storyline without being hindered too much by the constant battling. Oh, and if it's a good vs. evil decision, I almost always go for the good guy decision.

Single Player FPS: Snipe who I can from extreme distance. Then take a defensive position and kill almost everyone from there. I use a variety of weapons depending on the game.

Multiplayer FPS: Shoot first, ask questions later. Such as "Oh, are we not supposed to run in with all guns blazing?" I mean, I respawn, so I don't mind so much if I die. And it also (in most games) allows others to focus on being clever since I work as a fantastic decoy. This is accurate for explaining how I work in both co-op and versus, although I don't play versus often at all. I adore co-op games.

4X: Research, research, research. Keep good diplomacy until you're streets ahead of everyone and them BAM, tanks vs. chariots.

    Fighters: BUTTON MASH HOOOOOOO
    Bow before the mighty Javoo!

RPG: I'd basically call myself a treasure hunter, if I know the direction I need to go for the plot, I go the opposite way so I can get all the loot. I'm also a compulsive saver, I save multiple times at every save point, just to make sure.

FPS: Unless it's an RPG shooter like Mass Effect or Borderlands I tend to avoid it, and if they are like an RPGFPS, I play them like an RPG, but with a shotgun/sniper combo.

    MOBA: No, just hell no.

MMO: I'm a multi character player. I create one of each class, if possible, then usually start with the warrior type and go with that one for a bit until I hit some sort of milestone, such as a class change (if it's that type of MMO), or an arbitrary level I decide to stop at. At that point, I try a different class and repeat the process until I'm either bored of the game, or back to the first character.

Okay now for MMO and MOBA thanks to you guys now I know. Thank you very very much guys

MMO : For this gameplay. Um. I played RF online once. well I don't know the priority for this kind of gameplay. Because I only played it like a weeks long. so I don't know haha

MOBA : for this gameplay. maybe if the game like Call of Duty multiplayer or wait am I wrong? Ok now I usually use my priority weapon with light machine gun customize with Acog sight, extra ammo and extra damage. Second weapon like Chicom (well call of duty black ops 2 usually called it.) customize with red dot sight, extra ammo and extra damage. Well that is for call of duty black ops 2 multiplayer. But now I haven't played it again. Because I used to play it at Rental Playstation 3. (that's what they called it in Indonesia) Is Call of Duty Black ops 2 zombie include? Nah, I don't so. haha
