Thraduil, king of the Elves of Mirkwood, is Legolas's father, and a fairly important character in this story. And since there is a chapter or so that takes place in his grounds and with his people, it's really not much of a stretch to have Legolas there.Originally Posted by Pike

Man I'm real excited, the first one was so magical to me, I really loved every minute of it smiling all retarded in the theater.
I do sympathize with people who don't like who they've actionized the stories, with them fighting goblins during the barrel scene now!!! I don't care though, should be tight.
Also them showing Smaug's head whereas you never got a clear full shot of him in the first film... oh well, that's ok.
I honestly didn't think that they would show Smaug so early on. I thought they would've waited until right before the release.
They'll probably hold off on having him speak until late on in the marketing campaign.

A real dragon costs too much.
The dragon wasn't the problem, so much as troutty looking CGI elves.
They had a problem with real elves too. Something about possible Union strikes if they didn't get free lembas.
