What's ironic though... I thought the closer you got to the U.S./Mexico border, the better the Mexican food was supposed to be. EH! Wrong! I worked at this crappy Messcan place (that didn't serve alcohol 'cuz that part of Texas is -dry- in every direction for at least 30 miles. Until you hit Texarkana or Idabel, OK) and like... They pre-cook their fajita meat every morning, numero uno. And then like here in Nashville, when you order even just a lunch fajita... The meat & veggies all come on the skillet, then you get a separate plate for the rice & beans & pico de gallo/sour cream/guacamole. The place in New Boston, they cram the meat & veggies onto the skillet -with- the rice & beans on there and then you only get sour cream & pico de gallo with it. No guacamole. & it's like $8.

I ordered a dinner fajita to go - Shrimp, Chicken, Beef mix... It -all- came in -1- styrofoam container with the rice & beans in the little cups and the guacamole & pico de gallo ('cuz that's what you get with the dinner. No sour cream) in a separate container. And I paid like $17 for that ish. And none of the meat is marinated. They tried to say "Oh it comes pre-marinated!" and I'm like "Dude. Salt & Pepper is -not- a marinade. At all." It all tasted like cardboard.

Where my ex works, you can order the "Parilla Mexicana" (comes with shrimp, chicken, beef, chorizo, and pork) for the same price and the meat comes in its own metal container, the rice & beans in another, & the guacamole salad and ish in another.

I love Memphis BBQ, though.. .*sigh* We went to this really good hole-in-the-wall seafood place in Shreveport.. It was super yummy.

This is the first time someone mentioned Memphis without my urging. I feel so proud of my hipster-filled pyramid-having city. *sniff*

Yeah.... The one time I've eaten Memphis BBQ -IN- Memphis. lulz. ... Back in High School. That doesn't make the drive from Nashville to Memphis any less painful, though.

I'm still wondering how close Chili's "Memphis" Dry Rub ribs actually are to being anywhere close to authentic (as good as they may be). It's been so long since I've stopped & eaten anywhere in Memphis.

We were supposed to go to a Grizzlies game last month since they were doing so well, but tickets were outrageous. -_-;; Sad Face! (I'm so not a basketball fan. I'll go to a game though as long as I can drink and be merry).

I had a friend my freshman year of undergrad who was from there. He seemed really happy to have gotten out.
I was stationed in Mississippi for three months but managed to get out of there in 3-4 weeks by busting my ass to pass all of the training courses as quick as possible. The only good thing about Mississippi was the food. My god that was delicious.

I have never, before or since, experienced the same degree of swamp ass as I did while I was stationed in that hell hole.

I was (hoping to) go to a Grizzlies' game until the Memphis dropped the ball big time against the Spurs. Dammit.

I haven't had Chili's ribs so I can't say but I know Nashville has pretty damn amazing restaurants. Plus you got a nice anime con and generally have people who are less colossal a-holes. xD

We're also home of the big 'ole Gypsy Ball. WOOOOO!!!! YEAH! I didn't even -know- that until I watched a marathon of "American Gypsy" whatever. I just remember having to wait on them once @ LongHorn in TX. I wanted to shoot myself. They were so rude, and loud and annoying and their kids were messy freak shows and they didn't tip.

The only really like.. Unique places I've been to in Nashville is like Bound'ry and Yellow Porch. Nothing fancy.

I never hated my home state. Missouri is freaking awesome.

I think I'll enjoy living in Pennsylvania very much, though.
