Yeah, I know what you mean on that one, Phil. 20% sales tax over here is what did it for us, I imagine.

Australia has 10% GST, I don't know where the other $100 they're charging us on top of that is coming from.
No reason to buy a PS4 in Australia. Amazon has already said that if you pre-order through the US site, they'll ship the console to Australia for $15. Since the console will not be region-locked, you can purchase NA versions of the games. Even with shipping, you'll probably still come in under bloated Australian prices.
It is not backwards compatible, but they are looking into their Gaikai streaming service, which will (they hope) stream all previous generations of Sony video games.
Not including backwards compatibility is their way of saying "Hey, we don't want this console to cost a few hundred dollars more." I'm happy with that, I already own a PS3 and don't want to pay for it all over again.

I kind of feel like a company of Sony's character has no excuse not to have the illest possible emulators of their old systems.
Back to the double life.

Rather than starting a new thread for a rumour, I'll post it here instead:
Seems that Sony's 'Holiday Season' actually meant closer to Thanksgiving Holiday
