Perhaps worth noting that most of the best characters in FFVII were not part of the original plan, so I have no problems with them adding in characters later in the development cycle. Of course, it may be too late now. Personally, I think that it shouldn't even be a point of contention. If they all happen to be guys, so be it. If there happen to be girls, so be it. In X-2 they were all girls and from what I understand it wasn't a terrible, horrible game as a result of this (haven't played it myself).
