pitbulls? you mean the dogs that are notoriously bred foer fighting and are responsible for a high level of attacks on other animals and humans? THey a banned breed here, and thank smurf.

My Bozo was a Newfoundland/black lab mix. He looked like a large black golden retriever. He was the most awesome dog ever.

Edit: my mom for whatever reason bought a Yorkie. She named him Damnit.

Never get a Yorkie. They're impossible to train.

Yeah. While I'm not particularly a fan of pitbulls, I have taken more of a liking to them. They just get a bad rap.

Some of the sweetest, most loyal and most gentle dogs I've known were pits, pit mixes, rotties and dobermans.

Some of the meanest dogs Yorkies, Scotties, and Chihuahua. You can't judge a dog for what the breed is "known" for - we don't associate Bulldogs with bull baiting anymore, do we? You have to judge the individual dog, and more importantly, the owner.

I love pretty much all dogs. I have a soft spot for big guys and girls, the Mastiffs, the wolf-hounds and elk-hounds, what have you. But I love mutts most of all. And everyone should adopt at least one mutt in their life and give it a good home, because it's so hard for them in the world.

    Signature by rubah. I think.

Yorkies aren't mean. Just stupid. Along with miniature dobermans.

I take that back. They're not stupid per se, just extremely hard to train.

I've done the reseach and read the science. I'd an idea a butthurt pitbull fan would defend them here, i'd no idea it'd be you.

When a pitbull choses to bite it does more damage than almost any other dog. It's jaw strength is arguably stronger than any other dog. It's been bred for fighting for a thousand years. It's mouth is designed to kill. For anyone to have it as a pet around children is irresponsible. They're probably the most dangerous breed of dog around. I keep hearing this nonsense from owners and fans of dangerous dogs that they're harmless. Smaller dogs are more agressive and can do more harm. Bollox. THe science doesn't agree with you. End of story.

It's not the dog, it's the owner and the way it was raised. There are many so-called "aggressive breeds" that are raised with children and trained properly and are wonderful, usually protective, members of their families. So saying that it's irresponsible to have one around a child is kind of absurd.

No with certain breeds, it's the dog. I fully respect that someone can own a pits all their lives and have no incidents. The same way someopne can smoke all theri lives and never get cancer. I understand that if a pit grows up with a loving home it's less likely to attack. However that likelyhood never leaves completely. And like I said the biggest problem with pits is the damage they can do the second they decide to attack. Their mouths are designed to kill. The selective breeding that's brought them to where they now are mean they have the stronngest jaw strength of any dog. They're very dangerous whether people accept it or not.

My mom has two dogs, a Shih Tzu and a Whippet. The Shih Tzu is SUPER stinky and goes crazy if you leave her alone for more than a few minutes and it's kind of annoying. The Whippet is pretty clean and more tolerable to be around in general, it's funny because she has fits where she'll run circles around the house at 40mph for 20 minutes and then go crash on the couch for six hours.

Trying to educate an owner of a pit bull. That's cute.

Most need educated. They're either ignorant of the proven dangers OR they know them and ignore them.

I have a newfie and while he is an amazing dog and very well behaved. he drools EVERYWHERE. I don't know if you literally will want to carry a rag with you at all times to wipe up drool. He tries hard not to drool but it doesn't matter. There are "drool-less" ones but from people I know who have them they are MUCH more aggressive and have a wide range of health issues.

and on the issue of Pitbulls. It's the owner 95% of the time. Golden retrievers actually have the sharpest teeth of any domestic dog.
