Thread: Am I. . .

  1. #1

    Default Am I. . .

. . .the only who gets a page opening up at MyFilestore.com - Your File Hosting
whenever I click on Eyes on Final Fantasy link when I do a search in my browser?
This has been happening pretty much every single time I click on the EoFF link; the MyFilestore page opens up first, then I have to click on the EoFF link again to open up the site. What gives? Has a bug breached my powerful online defenses and infected my computer? Am I running out of storage space? Am I the only one with this problem? Is any one else craving a burger right now?

Yes to the burger, the rest sounds like adware. Moved to the Help Forum.

Or Firefox, aka the browser that invented Adblock long before Chrome existed

    Also try running MalwareBytes Anti-Malware.

But like this is the only site this stuff happens with. If it were malware, wouldn't that affect a whole bunch of other sites I go to? Guess I'll try to see if I can clean up my system...

And I'm using firefox, btw. I use yahoo to do my searching. Don't know if that would have anything to do with it.

I'm getting the same thing! I thought I was going crazy. It happens for me only once in about fifteen or twenty emails, though.

I also use Firefox, but I have an Intel-managed computer that's pretty much guaranteed to be free of any sort of malware. It happens only on this site, and only when I click on a thread notification I received by email. It never happens when I click on mognet notifications or anything else on this site, or on any other. I can't even click 'back' to return to the thread.

What's odd is that it seems to at least momentarily access eoff - long enough to register me as having accessed the thread for "new post" purposes. To fix this problem, I double-click on a thread notification, and if one gets redirected at least the other doesn't!

This is almost definitely happening server-side.

We're currently talking to the owners about the advertising network we use - this is most likely coming from that end. So yeah, working on it. AdBlock should set you straight in the meantime, if you have a browser that supports it.

This happens to me as well, when I follow a link from an email back to EoFF. I agree that it's very likely a server issue.

A lot of the ads also impact page load times if you're not logged in. If you're logged in most of the ads don't show, but if you aren't logged in and you try to visit the page its load times are nearly tripled while you wait for the ads to load. :\

Why wouldn't you be logged in?

After I've cleared my cache, cookies, browsing history and even my autocomplete history so that my fiancé won't find my ridiculously classy porn preferences. Or when I'm logging in somewhere that is not my home.

I've had this! Firefox crashed for me the other day so I tried Chrome and got this. Thought I had a virus or something!

I just realized I accidentally left off a salient point when editing my post. By "momentarily accessing eoff", I mean that if I get redirected to MyFileStore and then close the tab and reopen the link, eoff acts as though I've already seen the thread and brings me to the last post rather than bringing me to the earliest unread one. This despite the fact that the MyFileStore window doesn't display a back button that allows me to return to the URL I actually clicked on.

ADDED SEVEN HOURS LATER: I just now got redirected off a Mognet notification's Inbox link, in direct contradiction to my statement in my previous post above. I guess the fact that it hadn't happened yet was luck of the draw.
