My favorite thing about EoFF is the people that I met over the 12+ years I've been a member. Some have vanished, sadly (Wyllius, I'm glaring in your general direction), and some are still here, sadl-- thankfully. Some I've met in person, some I hope to meet, and overall fun times have been had here.

Plus I love animals and summons kind of seem like pets!

If you play FFTA or FFTA2, you can be a Beastmaster, and they get to control monsters in battle. And, storyline wise, they're a very pet-centered class (how you get introduced to them in FFTA2 is helping a Beastmaster with a hurt pet).

Not to mention all of the chocobos, monsters, and dragons you can add to your party in Final Fantasy Tactics.
