Valkyrie Profile Scratches

So I just recently bought I PS1 copy of Valkyrie Profile (which I love so far). I thought about looking up a walkthrough to see whether I should teach Jelanda Fire Lance or save it for a future mage (I was curious), when one of the walkthroughs I read mentioned that the game is incredibly sensitive to scratches. Obviously, this has been the cause of a great deal of worry; this game doesn't come cheap. So, I thought I'd ask around and see if anyone else on this forum has played the PS1 version, how scratched it is/isn't, and how well the game still runs.

My PS1 version has ONE scratch, not even deep enough to catch a nail, and it doesn't play past the first time you actually get to control your characters.

Aww man... I gotta be really careful then. The disks are in pretty good quality, but there are still signs of use.

My copy tends to crash when I play for like 4-7 hours in a row. It is more like a hardware issue I think.

When the game does freeze, does it have that little disc icon in the lower right hand corner? I've encountered it a couple times, but I've yet to have to turn of the game.

My copy isn't in the best shape; game only froze once in the "bad ending" last dungeon.

Teach Jelanda whatever; you'll probably not be swapping her out this entire play through.

Yeah, it does. Game continues though after a few moments.

Get a chipped ps1, play with a burned disk and keep the original game in a safe box..

Well, my PSP has been long dead, and buying one with Lenneth would have been more expensive than the original. Also, the copy I bought was definitely not for collectors value.
