Perhaps I am misinterpreting how the folks in NA say 'race'; if you would kindly post a soundbite, I would be better able to evaluate it. But, based on my sample evidence of every time I've heard the word said (incl. by professors of the English language thank you very much) it has never rhymed with race. I have heard it rhymed with "raise/raze" and "Ra's (as in, belonging to the Egyptian God Ra)/bras (you know, women's underwear)."
