I actually do this every time I play FF12, although I didn't know about this guide and never followed this exact set of rules. My party is usually something along these lines:

Vaan - Thief or Ninja
Penelo - Black Mage
Fran - White Mage
Basch - Red Mage
Ashe - Paladin
Balthier - Summoner
