Thread: Metalheads

    Default Metalheads

Call it hardcore, post-hardcore, metal, progressive whatever... lately I've been listening to metal music, and now I need your suggestions.

This week I discovered the band Periphery. Here's a preview of their latest album : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DHGjUrNn6c

So go on, suggest ! Please, no death metal

All my best friends are metalheads.

*I had to, even though it's not metalhead music.

You can't go wrong with Periphery. If you don't want death metal, it will make some suggestions difficult because a lot of the more experimental progressive bands have those vocals. Even Periphery.

I'll start off with a suggestion that is tried, but true.

    Animals As Leaders - CAFO

If you like that, here's some more bands. There's lots of variety here, so if you're don't like the first band, don't write the rest off. Give 'em a listen.

    Omnium Gatherum - The Return

Eternal Tears of Sorrow - Lost Rune of Thunder

    GRU - Pulsar

    The Algorithm - Access Denied

3 Inches of Blood - Revenge is a Vulture

Light This City - The Unwelcome Savior

    Galneryus - Alsatia

    Sylosis - Empyreal

Darkest Hour - With A Thousand Words To Say But One

The Browning - Time Will Tell

    Monuments - Doxa

    After the Burial - Aspirations

Born of Osiris - Follow the Signs

Arsis - Face of My Innocence

    Eluveitie - Lugdunon

If you want more, just ask.

As for the other bands, I've never heard of them. I'll start and listen to these songs right away. Thanks !

Edit : All right so I listened to them all. Here's my report

    *** Awesome ***

If you like Periphery, can't go wrong with Tesseract, Skyharbor, or Being. Not much of the harsh vocals in these bands.

Being and Tesseract are certainly great, but Tesseract does have a lot of aggressive vocals. Going off of what you thought was awesome and good here's some more. I would suggest you try a few more songs from the bands you didn't like. It's hard to judge off of just one song. Anyway,

    The HAARP Machine - Disclosure

    Volumes - Wormholes

    Structures - Departure & Transitions

My Bitter End - Becoming Misfortune

    Intronaut - Milk Leg

    Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage

    Katatonia - Onward Into Battle

Woods of Ypres - Kiss My Ashes

IWrestledABearOnce - Tastes Like Kevin Bacon

    The Agonist - Serendipity

    Walls of Jericho - Try.Fail.Repeat.

    Nightwish - Planet Hell

Tesseract has some harsh vocals on their first album, but they're like non-existent in the new album.

    There's hipster, and then there's metalhead-level hipster.

It's hipster to suggest good metal bands when someone asks?

I thought it was hipster if I claimed that he would have never heard of them, or that he shouldn't like certain bands because they got popular.

My Bitter End - Becoming Misfortune (I like their music, but not the singing)
    Katatonia - Onward Into Battle

Nightwish - Planet Hell (I know this band, it's weird, I can't have a straight opinion, I don't know if I like them)

Here's the thing. Most of these bands, even if I flagged them as "nope", the musical part is usually good... it's the singing I'm not a big fan of.
But, overall, great stuff man ! There are a lot of good suggestions here

I've never heard of any of these bands, haha. xD Most of the bands I listen to I've been introduced through other people. I've been listening to the same albums by Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, and In Flames for years. DX Slowly going through the lists to see what I like.

Can't really think of much more that similar to what you've already liked, but if you like Nightwish, check out Epica.

Then you might have to try some bands across different albums. Lots of these groups swap members, and talent is rotated out pretty regularly.

If you like the line-up it sucks, if you don't it's a chance to like a band you didn't before.

An example is My Bitter End. They took a 3-4 year hiatus and have returned with a new album and new vocalist. So here's that same song with a different lead.

My Bitter End - Becoming Misfortune
