Final Fantasy XIV Baddies Collection: Malboros and Tonberries and Cactuars, oh my!

At the Live Letter yesterday, Yoshi-P released a new little video featuring the monsters of Final Fantasy XIV in the style of the last Eorzea Collection video. Check it out!

The video goes through some of the FFXIV monsters you will encounter in Eorzea, many of which you’ve probably already seen before. Some are well-known to Final Fantasy fans but new to Eorzea, such as the iconic Tonberry, shown below.

I love how cute the tonberries are, but FFXI makes me hate them a little bit.

Almost every FF made me at Tonberry mobs, but I'll be damned if they aren't freaking awesome anyway. So glad they'll be appearing.

Even tanks fear the Tonberry.

And as much as I hate dying when tanking, I can't help but hope that the best moves of the Tonberry in this game are capable of decimating even the best of tanks. Because it just feels right.

Tonberry enemies in FFXI had a collective hate which contributed to damage dealt by Everyone's Grudge. Every time you killed a Tonberry, the damage from the standard TP move shared by all Tonberrys increased. It eventually got to the point that even trash mob Tonberrys could kill you with a single hit. You had to do a quest to appease the Tonberrys to reset the damage. I wouldn't be surprised to see something similar.

Yeah, Tonberry is just awesome. I didn't know that about their role in FFXI, but I think that's really cool. I like that a slow little tadpole with a lantern knifes you in the gut and it's super powerful and kills you.
