It's journalism, as well as porn.
Distributed through the internet.
Well the magazines are physically found, so it's unlikely that it is distributed via the internet. Porn, or at least what the company produces, is covered in other books - Girls Next Door, and "Jacket Over Skin: The Beautiful Women Edition" - and so probably doesn't feature so heavily in the Timber Maniacs series.
"Journalism" isn't as specific a field as you might think
Seriously Timber Maniacs was two different things. First off it was a publishing company for many different magazines.
Secondly the actual Timber Maniacs publication was a collection of freelance submissions given by many different people, so it can contain anything.
By the time of the game though it's out of publication, as it was used as a political platofrm opposing the galbadian government and was shut down
While Timber Maniacs (the magazine series) was shut down, I know they are still in business with other stuff like Girls Next Door and what have you. I'm sure all of their magazines (including the freelance Timber Maniacs series) were distributed much how they are in real life: through mailers and also being shipped to stores and newsstands to be sold. As the old issues can be found anywhere from Balamb to the Shumi Village, I'd almost say that they were distributed world-wide. I guess it could have just been a popular magazine sold in a small radius around Timber in which the old issues just spread as people moved away.
Actually, it was probably spread around the world through trains since Timber seemed to get a lot of train traffic. I don't know what all would have been in the magazines, but we do have Laguna's world travel series. I'm sure some of the other articles involved opinions and thoughts on current political affairs, particularly with Galbadia. Maybe there were even articles on different entertainment things such as music or maybe even Triple Triad.

Trains is logical. I didn't even consider that actually.
I feel like a lucky dip magazine wouldn't have been anywhere near as successful as that; you can't exactly start a flagship publication on "we'll publish whatever." I guess it could have simply been a lifestyle magazine?
I suppose it could have been a lifestyle magazine. I was more listing possibilities than saying they would all be in there at once. It probably really was something more of a political nature, though. Timber is known now for its multitude of resistance groups, and that might have been a thing throughout Timber's history with Galbadia. It might have actually been a platform used to just speak out against Galbadia with some other things to sort of hide that nature of the magazine. The main reason I'd consider that a focus of it would be because it was shut down for the possibility of inciting rebellion. Even Laguna's stuff could apply to that just because you get the perspective of a once Galbadian soldier who didn't really seem to want to fight and follow Galbadia's goals. He just wanted to travel the world and write. His articles would also kind of give the people of Timber a glimpse of places who didn't have to suffer Galbadian occupation and what their day to day lives were like. Just a thought.
Yeah, Laguna's angle would be really frigging excellent as an anti-Galbadian piece, even without him realising. Former soldiers are only former soldiers for a handful of reasons, and the fact he is just going everywhere that isn't Galbadia...
Jiro, the magazine is called Timber Maniacs because they don't really care about distributing magazines. It's just a bunch of people that get sexual arousal at cutting down trees, yelling timber, and then writing romantic short stories about tree murder.
The reason you find Timber Maniacs all over is because there are articles in there that Laguna was directly involved in. Like the ONe found in Shumi Village.
Laguna is revered in Shumi Village because of how he helped the moomba.
We only actually see the photos that Selphie puts up in her public diary, so who knows what else is in there? I imagine resistance related things since it got shut down, but if you notice... You fimd the magazine in places Laguna's actually been to.
I suppose it's possible that you are finding Laguna's old copies. Actually, the articles probably came out after Laguna would have been in those places. It would make sense for them to be found there, though. Considering how big (I think) Timber Maniacs was, people probably would be interested in getting an issue that's about their town or whatever.
Or Ellone was placing those in those places for you to find as a means to better solidify your connection with Laguna in those areas or something. That could be an interesting thought.
I can understand them "importing" a copy, but it's unlikely Laguna left them there, unless he revisited areas at some point during his adventures. Being President seemed restricting though.
Look at the number of books and magazines there are in the Timber Maniacs office.
Look at the number of books and magazines you can find in the open world.
...Timber Maniacs apparently isn't distributed. At all.
