Yeah, like I said, I think we should focus on movies with mass appeal, at least at first. Someone could always make a thread for your favorite obscure or 'bad' movies if you want to discuss those.

I have bad news for you; a lot of movies about excessive gore or moody people are mainstream, popular films.

For instance, anything recent by Quentin Tarantino is going to be Mainstream Gore. Tons of critically acclaimed mainstream Hollywood movies are about moody characters, like Garden State and Lost in Translation and whatever there are hundreds of examples.

Did you watch Hobo with a Shotgun?

No, but I've seen Machete. It's a movie made from a fake trailer for a "Grindhouse" film; it's going to be on one of the edges of the cinematic experience. But there's a lot more to movies than the Avengers.

Most movies (and certainly most good movies) aren't going to be mainstream "popcorn" films. Nor should the movies suggested here. The first time someone suggests Iron Man or whatever here, I'm going to roll my eyes and die a little bit more inside.

In the end, people can suggest any movie they want, and we don't all have to watch it.

That's true. The more members we have, though, the more a chance there will be that atleast a few people will watch the pick of the week and then we can engage in discussion about it.

How non-confrontational of you. You're right, people can have terrible taste, if they're so inclined, too.

The point of joining something like this, though, would be to expand your taste and watch movies you wouldn't pick to watch on your own.

I did try to expand my taste last time! It resulted in one of the most horrible things I've ever seen. It wasn't just the gore (I appreciate a good Tarantino flick), the movie itself was just awful. I even gave it an extra 30 minutes in an effort to 'expand my tastes'. I still resent the people who voted for that movie. It traumatized me and I'll never get those minutes back.

Well, as I said, I haven't actually seen that one. And yes, if you try to expand your tastes, you'll discover some things you don't like. The point is to watch them and judge; if you watch even just a single movie of a particular style, you can often get an idea as to whether you'd like to watch more movies in that style. If so, then it is worthwhile; if not, you've only wasted the time of one single movie.

I'm usually pretty open minded, but that incident caused me to seriously question if my tastes and those of most of the members here align. We'll find out with our movie picks for this club!

If it's horror, even 'thriller' type horror, count me out. The most horror filled I can go up to is the Woman in Black.

I hope you all know that every movie I choose will feature Mr. DiCaprio.
