Article: [UPDATED] FINAL FANTASY Type-0 may be released outside Japan - No guarantees though!

Following the recent announcement of FINAL FANTASY Agito, it seems that all hope may not yet be lost for a release of the much sought after FINAL FANTASY Type-0. The PSP game has been a major point of contention for fans outside of Japan due to Square Enix's silence regarding localisation. In light of continued fan demand, Square Enix may finally be taking a look back at FINAL FANTASY Type-0 nearly 2 years after it's original release.

Director Hajima Tabata, in an interview with US Gamer, stated that FINAL FANTASY Type-0 had seen some localization into English and various other European languages but, ultimately remained unreleased due to logistical concerns. However with the announcement of FINAL FANTASY Agito, Tabata sees both games a companion titles in the series and hopes to bring both - yes you read that right, BOTH! - to audiences outside of Japan.

An official localization has not yet been greenlit within Square Enix but it's very likely that a potential release will be announced on the PlayStation Network. Tabata says this is in the final stage of planning at present. He did go at pains to stress that this is not a guarantee, however, but he's been driven by continued passionate fan feedback about releasing the game overseas.

So what if Square Enix don't greenlight the production? Well, believe it or not, there's still hope! Sony Computer Entertainment America have recently opened a new division focused solely on making third party games that fans want to happen - this includes localizations of games stuck in limbo overseas! The team will workly closely with Sony's trusted third party publishing partners to bring titles to the PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Square Enix have trusted other companies to publish their games in the past. SCEA have published several of Square's titles and for the past few years Nintendo has taken over publishing of the Dragon Quest series.

What's more, getting your voice heard by Sony on this topic is actually (and rather unusual for Sony) incredibly easy. Gio Corsi, the head of this new division, has stated that he welcomes project requests via his Twitter account, @giocorsi. He's already busy putting together a massive list, so be sure to Tweet him and get FINAL FANTASY Type-0 on his radar.

Don't hold your breath just yet though. We all know how long this carrot has been dangling in front of us. But maybe, just maybe, we can dare to dream again.

I read somehere a while back it was going straight to Ios and skipping the US PSP release. I don't know if that is true or not.

Tabata has had a further interivew with US Gamer where he confirms that Agito will definitely be coming to the US and EU and it's almost certain that Type-0 will be too as they want to release it as a "complete experience."

That last interview you linked just made my day. It's fantastic news. It is kind of sad that they considered doing an hd conversion for the PS3 but decided against it. I always prefer playing on a console rather than a handheld.

I still expect Squenix to let me down and announce again that there are no plans for a western release in the near future. I'm trying not to get too excited about finally having the chance to play this game in the future.

I used to. Now consoles make up about 95% of my gaming. I just really prefer them.

Still, with an HD conversion, I'd be ok with it, as long as we got cross-play with the Vita.

I can't see any way that could happen. The entire control system would have to be scrapped and overhauled, and about 90% of the gameplay features removed.

No, they're two separate games. Just feature the same cast. Agito is one being made for iOS/Android as a sort of social RPG.
