And, while doing my own searches, I noticed that Wal-Mart is apparently offering an exclusive unlock code with the purchase of either game. Pokémon X gets you Garchomp, Pokémon Y gets you Scizor. They are codes which unlock the Pokémon in-game, and can be redeemed over WiFi. So Pokémon has finally jumped on the vendor-exclusivity bandwagon. Pity.
