This thread is like Halley's Comet. If Halley's Comet smoked some meth and reared its head every three weeks instead of every 76 years.

This isn't necessarily a cover but the entire CD is made after the 1994 album illMATIC by nas and this song is awesome.

"Running Up That Hill" by Kate Bush is one of the best pop songs ever written. Period.

    - actually, Kate Bush's cover of Elton John's "Rocket Man" is pretty great too. And Cat Power is notoriously good at covering songs. "The Covers Record" and "Jukebox" are both wonderful records consisting of just covers.

The cake threads are more frequent, I believe.

Okay, totally seconding (thirding?) the Jeff Buckley and Placebo.

    Some of my favorites.

Sarah Slean - Climbing Up The Walls (Pink Floyd cover)

Ani Difranco - Used Car (Bruce Springsteen cover)

    For cheering up, this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsqgM4pZy4s

and Pamplemouse does some awesome covers. It's kinda what they do. Youtube it!

I don't know if I have a favorite cover, but I've been really enjoying Postmodern Jukebox's 20s-50s-ish covers of current pop songs.

I got this post on my phone and went aaaaah The Crow! So glad someone else loves this song! I also did not know it was a Joy Division cover.

Along the same lines of The Crow, I don't find this cover of Cry Little Sister from The Lost Boys too terrible. The video is atrocious, though and watching it makes the song terrible and hilarious, but I kindof like the electric guitar/rock twist on it. Of course, the original is best.
