I realize that memes used to be an inside joke that only had meaning within the context of a particular community. When people outside of that context and community go out of their own way to learn about and perpetuate that meme using sites like knowyourmeme.com it really bothers me. Why is stuff like "the cake is a lie" deader than a doornail? Because idiots who didn't even play Portal use it as a dick-waving contest. "I know something that YOU don't, im in on the joke, arent I cool guys?" until everybody "knows" and the meme becomes meaningless.
Call me a hipster, but I hate it when something created within the context of my small community and was humourous or interesting is plastered all over Reddit where people who don't really understand what they're laughing at are laughing at it.
It's stupid, its shallow, smurf memes and internet "culture".
