An unexpected surprise has been announced, as Dengeki PlayStation has reported that Brigadier General Cid Raines will be in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII! Those of us who played the original Final Fantasy XIII may find this as quite a shock considering the events that unfolded in the original game.
This week's issue of Famitsu magazine gave people a glimpse of what Cid's role would be this time around. The character is quoted as saying "It's not god. What's moving me is the countless thoughts of the dead. I am the representative of the dead."

The number of cast members who are returning in Lightning Returns is so large that even people who were thought to be dead make a comeback as well!
There are, unfortunately, some people who will not return. In a recent interview with Siliconera, producer Yoshinori Kitase said that Gadot, Yuj, Maqui and Lebreau will not make appearances. "This game takes place far into the future after the events of Final Fantasy XIII-2, so unfortunately members of NORA will not make an appearance." He went on to add a little light at the end of the tunnel for NORA fans, stating "There may be tidbits that pertain to various sub-characters hidden within the episodes of the various side quests."
