In response to Niale's answer... no. That's not the path I was taking, sorry.
An artist isn't only a person who paints pictures and knows how to draw things. As I'm sure we all know, nearly every videogame to date would never have existed if there wasn't art involved. This is where literature, movies and music comes from. There are concept artists, digital artists, comic artists, animators, storyboard artists-- and it goes even further than that. Singers and songwriters and musicians of all sorts, authors and screenwriters, and many more, and all of these are people who have struggled to fight the tide, have to try their damndest to ignore their peers nagging them to 'get a real job'.
These are people who've managed to earn a living and are now able to laugh in the faces of people who try to define the term 'real job', or maybe they're people who only made it partway, or haven't even started, and have been completely disheartened by the cold uncaring attitudes of people who stomp on their long-term goals.
But most of the time, these are people who started out kind of lame. We're all derivative and unoriginal in some way and at the start of our journey it may seem the most prominent. People might see their art, then scoff and say
'that's not original at all.'
'And you want to base your whole life off this? Grow up.'
'So basically you ripped off ___.'
'You know you could be put in jail for this.'
But if you start earning even a little money, even a cent per day, or per year, that still means you've got a JOB.
Youtube gamers are what I like to call freelance visual journalists. They write reviews (of games), they take interviews(with game devs), they grab the interest of people in one game or another. They rate things and keep you updated on the latest in the gaming industry, and they PERFORM while doing it.
Not all of them actually have what it takes... so they never get the partnership deal with Youtube. It takes following a lot of rules to get a Youtube partnership, and being interesting of course. But the ones that do are skilled in art, acting, hosting, sometimes even music...
I support these people. Not because they do me any good, I guess they don't. But if they actually succeed and get a youtube partnership and start earning money from their work, then they've found their niche and they're
happy.
But you do know a vast majority of the youtube gamers don't have that partnership....right?
And you DO know that even the Youtube partners only earn their daily wage based off the number of people that view and click the ADS in their videos? Like, if you have adblock on... these youtube partners are not being paid. And the average earnings a youtube partner can get is
$0.95 to $4.05 per day.
And yet you seem to act as if they have it easy.
On another note, your statement about Obama... is DEEPLY untrue, unnecessary, and incredibly offensive. Employment had essentially already begun to crash
before Obama took office, wise guy. If you didn't get the memo, unemployment rates have been steadily decreasing over the years.
So basically, Niale, do your homework before you say anything else. Also, be more considerate to others. Just because someone lives differently than you does not mean that you have the right to trounce on them and insult their lifestyles.
...
bye.
